Sunday Stills: Life in a #Waterworld

Color Planet

Memorial Day in the US is the traditional start to summer, which brings throngs of people to lakes, rivers and oceans.

Perhaps, but not in 2020…

…as the threats of exposure and illness from the coronavirus keep people home and away from their favorite leisure spaces.

Even as most US states have opened up for some recreational activities, social distancing and closed parking lots to beaches, trails and parks may still keep people away.

This week’s Sunday Stills photo challenge theme is waterworld. If you are one of the lucky ones who can enjoy being in or around the water, tell us about your favorite water world. Show us in recent photos. Can’t enjoy the water where you live? Share your favorite water photos from your archives.

Did you know…? “About 71 percent of the Earth’s surface is water-covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5 percent of all Earth’s water.”

Our seasonal windsurf campground in the Sacramento River Delta opened this weekend with rules for social distancing in place. Not hard to keep your distance while sailing or paddling…in light wind conditions…

Square in September: “Painnt”-ing with #Pink

pink hydrangea

On this last Friday of Pink Squares in September, I have some images to share. Not just my standard fare, but some used with a mobile app called Painnt (available for Android devices in Google Play Store).

My pink hydrangea with an Autumn flair!

Here are two Painnt images of the same hydrangea.

I found some lovely pink cone flowers in my neighborhood. This was a simple post-edit highlighting the pink against a black and white background.

Below is a cropped version of the above image but using the Painnt app filter.

It makes for a fun, yet striking image!

And here is the original image of the pink cone flowers:

I had some post-editing photo fun with these images. Thanks to these two photo-bloggers for inspiring me to get acquainted with “paint” apps and programs:

Carol, at Light Words, a fellow Northern Californian, takes wonderful photos and inspired me with her use of MobileMonet which is an Apple app.

Tina Schell, of Travels and Trifles, often uses a photo editor to create dreamy images inspired by impressionists and watercolor artists.

I am pleased with this app and bought the premium version for a whopping $1.99 a month! Don’t worry, I’m not selling anything, but just sharing my discovery of a new way to enhance my images. Needless to say, I am #tickledpink at discovering this!

And many thanks to Becky at Life of B for her Square in September theme of pink!

Also adding this to Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge (pastel). Do have a look at her gorgeous hydrangeas!

I’m sharing a few more pink images in this week’s Sunday Stills!

Squares in September: Pink #Plumeria

pink plumeria

I am excited to contribute to Becky’s photo challenge Squares in September, In the Pink!

While in San Diego for my 40th high school reunion last week, we stayed at my daughter’s house. All around her neighborhood are yards and gardens lush with plumeria, my other favorite flower!

I love how this cluster peeked at me from its leaves! I was “tickled pink” to discover these, and then take multiple photos!

Plumeria are native to Hawaii, but each time I have visited there was during January, a month they do not bloom!

My daughter has been busy with her garden and I hope to have convinced her to plant a couple plumeria!

What is your favorite flower?

Sunday Stills: You’ve Got a #Friend

Woman with Dog

Who among us doesn’t have a friend? Some have a larger circle of friends, while others have a choice few.

Sunday Stills asks us to share an image of “friend.” The featured image above shows my daughter with her best friend Gideon!

Here are some of my examples of “friend.”

“Blogging introduced me to people from all over the world. I have met people who I now consider friends who live in Australia, UK, South Africa, Europe, Philippines, not to mention new friends in the states. My new friends, despite their distance, are as important to me as if they were my local neighbors.”  7 Ways Blogging Changed My Life

Bloggers became friends and spent a weekend sharing our tips and tricks for blogging.

Sunday Stills: #Drunk with…? or #Summer Drink

Tiki Bar Ready for Fun

The last Sunday in July challenges Sunday Stills participants to find an image depicting “Drunk with…?” Since this is indeed a challenging theme, I thought I would add an optional related theme “Summer Drink.”

Your theme can be centered around alcohol but it doesn’t have to be. I’m not much of a drinker although a special occasion may find me enjoying a skinny cocktail.

What is your take on “Drunk with…?” I’ve heard the expression “drunk with power,” or “drunk with pleasure.” Perhaps one of my blogger friends can show us what this means in a photo, a poem, a short story, or…?

For my own purposes, I chose to go with Summer Drink. I admit I may need more literal themes to inspire me on these hot, lazy days of summer.

This is one of my backyard hummers enjoying his summer drink.

Is a hummingbird really ever satisfied?

Lounge chair and beer

Again, I rarely drink these days, not that I did before. I’ve only been really drunk a couple of times and I HATED the feeling of being out of control, the accompanying sick stomach and the inevitable hangover.

I suppose I can be simply drunk with joy whenever I am out experiencing summer leisure activities.
