The Flower Hour #14: A Friendly Amaryllis

Last week, when I visited my neighbor, she shared that her amaryllis had just bloomed.

  13. I buy an Amaryllis every fall and watch it bloom near Christmas. I love the wax bulb ones, as all you do is place it on a shelf and watch it bloom a few weeks later! Mine is going to rebloom again. That’s a first for me. I buy mine on Amazon. They are great Christmas gifts!

  16. That is a beautiful plant – wow! Someone gave my mom an Amaryllis for Christmas. We’d never had one before and I followed the directions for it, but it took forever to sprout, let alone bloom, but in the process it grew like a beanstalk. Sadly, my mom had passed away and didn’t get to see her Amaryllis bloom. It only bloomed this one time, never again. I took a photo of it back in 2010 and used it in a blog post in 2014.

      • It was pretty, but not as vibrant as your neighbor’s. I hope you get one Terri and, since you’re already familiar with bulbs, perhaps you can get it to bloom yearly. This Amaryllis was like a beanstalk. I put it on the counter for the picture, but as it kept reaching toward the ceiling, I had to finally prop it up against a cupboard so it did not fall over and break.

  26. That’s lovely, Terri. We were given one a very similar colour to look after when friends returned to England. It excelled itself by flowering twice in succession. I’m hoping for a repeat performance xx
