Sunday Stills: Every #Window Tells a Story

As always, I welcome you to my photo challenge feature, Sunday Stills. This week, we’re focusing on windows and the stories they can tell us.

“If a window of opportunity appears, don’t pull down the shade.” – Tom Peters

Several years ago, we spent some time in Baja Sur, Mexico, during the winter, where windsports rule each day. In this image, I captured the sunrise through the windows (also shown in the featured photo), marking the promise of a new day.

When we stayed in Baja, at 7 o’clock sharp, the winter dawn always greeted us (I mean me). Grabbing my phone, I shot many a sunrise over the Sea of Cortez. I’m not sure how many times I’d shout, “Honey, you gotta see this,” to my sleeping husband.

Architectural Windows

The “House on the Rock” is an iconic house built on a large rock outcropping at the tip of Arrow Point on Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. This was one of many amazing views from the tour boat. Apparently, someone lives here! I almost shouted, “Honey, you gotta see this,” but he wasn’t on the boat with me 😉

After spending time at Seattle’s Alki Beach, we drove along the peninsula. As I sat in the back seat of the car, this was the view from my window. A condo unit filled with windows. But the view of Mt. Rainier in the distance subtly stole the show. I shared this photo with my daughters and said, ‘You gotta see this!”

In Roslyn, Washington, where the 1990s TV show Northern Exposure was filmed, this was the window that served as the clinic for Dr. Joel Flieshman.

Framed within Automobile Windows

During our recent travels, we came across some interesting windows. While walking in downtown Seattle, did my eyes deceive me, or was that a cute dog in the car window? And wearing a hat?

While visiting Marsha in August, we took an evening walk around her brother’s Portland, Oregon, neighborhood. As we turned the corner back to the house, I noticed how nice my new car looked, especially framed by Mt Hood in the distance!

During our first day driving in Yellowstone National Park, we noticed the clouds reflected in the back window of this van.

Back at home, I captured the morning’s sun through our transom window on the day of the Autumnal Equinox.

  1. Terri,

A lot of fun pictures here. I love the sunrises. My wife drives a Highlander, and I hope you enjoy yours as much as she does. The mountain in the background is spectacular. My contribution this week is from an Honor Air trip I took to D.C. last year. I spotted the Pentagon from my window seat. Enjoy your day, and please stay in touch! Joe

  2. Wow, no kidding about that last shot. Right place, right time! How cute she looks up there, too. Scary! I can see why you often said, “Honey, you gotta see this!” What great shots. I love the dog in the red cap, too. So cute! You really have great timing. Let me see if I can come up with something compelling! 🙂 xxx

    • Hi Ludwig, thank you for reading. It’s a simple photo challenge I’ve been hosting since 2018! Each week I share th interpretations of my theme with examples and try to tell various stories about the images as they relate to the theme. I’ve also seen your posts, too, but I dont always have a window to share. I’m off to read yours!

  4. A fabulous collection of windows. And so much that is new to me in seeing windows – a window with a sunrise, windows on the rocks (we need to make this into a drink), windows with neat reflections – just grand! Thank you for sharing with Monday Window.

  5. This a nice collection of windows scenes Terri. The rustic cabins in Fall look very inviting and the house perched atop the rock is unique. I am not sure I could be convinced to spend the night there though. 🙂 The dog is very cute! My post which comes along later as you know is about my trip to Grosse Ile, which had an outside art collection by the Detroit Institute of Arts at eight different sites on the island. And along the way there was a vintage bike shop – thus the windows portion,

    • Thank you, Linda! Those cabins were in Winthrop WA, in the Northern Cascades, last October. No autumn pics here yet, still too warm to change the leaves. The rock house is legit and has a driveway. It was a fun discovery on the 2-hour boat tour in Idaho.

      • The cabins looked like they were in a picturesque area. We’re not too vibrant with our leaves here either – we were 85 yesterday and today, which is 15 degrees above normal. That is an amazing way to live – the view from anywhere in the house would be fantastic!

  6. what a fun post and feel like we did a mini travel with you!
Loved the doggie in the backseat window (with the fun hat) – and that “house on the rock” must have taken a lot of extra blueprint strategizing.
Wishing you a wonderful week also!

  7. What a great selection of windows, Terri. I love the house on the rock! Is that a lady doing the windows? Rather her than me 😱 (apologies if is this doubles up, I wasn’t sure the message went through)

  8. What a fun choice for a challenge Terri, and how perfect that it fit ours as well this week. Loved that little pup with the hat – how cute is that?!?!? And your window washer image is great! Fun post as always.

    • Thank you, Tina! I love how the themes work out with each other a good percentage of the time. I had to run to catch the dog in the window on the busy Seattle streets. Lucky for me there was a red light, LOL! I’d never seen a female window washer, quite amazing–we were on the 13th floor of the building. Shiversss.
