Sunday Stills Monthly Color Challenge: Incandescent #Orange and Glowing #Gold

Welcome back to Sunday Stills this week! I got a lot done on my blog break to prepare for my parent’s move to Arizona. Not much happened over the Labor Day holiday weekend which was exactly what I needed.

Last week we had initially planned to take a 5-day road trip to Banff, British Columbia, but the upcoming travel to move my parents interrupted our budget. The journey to move them begins Sept 13, later this week, but I will be somewhat active on my blog, so please link to Sunday Stills all week like you usually do.

‘Nuff about my drama, let’s jump into the monthly color challenge featuring the colors of gold and orange. Your images can consist of one of these colors, both, or in combination!

Two weeks ago Sofia challenged us to share images of the primary colors of red, yellow, and blue. Orange is a secondary color created when combined with red and yellow.

“Orange is a vivacious and lively color that is present on the visible spectrum between harsh red and mellow yellow.”
~ Victoria Hudgins

The color Orange is often associated with fiery sunsets, bright coral, and iconic pumpkins.

Combined with yellow, we get shades of gold like amber, bronze, and apricot, shown in these dried marigolds.

Just before clouds and rain covered our skies during the last week of August, I caught a smoky, golden “blue” moon.

Autumn is a great time to find both of these colors in nature.

These gold and orange sunflowers sprang up as volunteers at my daughter’s home in San Diego last spring.

Here is a sunflower sporting gold and orange … and a bonus golden bee!

Along came a ladybug…or two…

The above gallery of little ladies is OK but I took more time to style a decent image. Out in the garden Saturday, I spied a ladybug languishing on a green leaf. I gently plucked her up and set her on the top of a sunflower. So, yes, she posed for me and did a great job!

A Golden Moment

Since January of this year, I have been honored to collaborate with Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday challenge sharing a monthly image to help inspire the amazing poetry and creativity I’ve enjoyed from our fellow bloggers.

I took this photo two summers ago. My neighbor invited me to go kayaking with her and her daughter and granddaughter.

Not only does this image fit the color challenge this month, but it also seems fitting to celebrate the wonderful relationships I’ve enjoyed with Colleen and the talented and inspiring poets who participate in Tanka Tuesday.

Thank you to all of you who have created your wonderful poems based on my images.

Inspiring Photo Challenges This Week

Each week I find inspiration from my fellow bloggers’ photo challenges. I enjoy incorporating these into my Sunday Stills weekly themes.

Sunday Stills Photo Challenge Reminders

The Sunday Stills weekly-themed photo challenge is easy to join. You have all week to share and link your post. I may be delayed in sharing your posts in the round-up, but please leave your link.

It was ambitious of me to offer a challenge on September 17 while we are traveling, so I’m taking another short break from Sunday Stills that week. As we pack and move my parents that weekend, internet access may be spotty for a couple of days and I am one of the drivers in the caravan.

With some blogs, I have experienced trouble commenting through the Jetpack app on my phone for various reasons, so I’m saving my full attention for the next challenge when I can use my computer. See you next time on Sept 24. Here is September’s schedule below:

  • Sept 3 NO CHALLENGE
  • Sept 10 Monthly Color Challenge: ORANGE and/or GOLD (any shade)
  • Sept 17 NO CHALLENGE
  • Sept 24 Bridges
Cup of gold

I will leave you pondering your choices of orange and gold with this cup of gold champagne from my stepdaughter’s wedding two years ago.

I can’t wait to see how you interpret the various shades of gold and orange this week! Join me in two weeks (Sept 24) as we explore BRIDGES.

      • Yes. I can understand.
I wish to tell you that I can never leave comments on your post if I use, an iPhone, iPad, Android phone or Android tablet, though I am logged in. Every time I am getting asked to log in again. It’s most disappointing. But when I leave comments from my laptop or PC, it’s getting published.
So the glitch is either with my URL or your URL. IT HAPPENS TO ME only with your URL.
Yesterday Tina Schell informed me that she too can’t leave comments on my post. I explained to her that a similar thing happening to me with Terri’s web.
In her case, Tina tried to comment on my post via her laptop. But when she tried through her iPhone, she was successful.

        Something is wrong somewhere.
My apologies for the inconvenience I caused.
Today I am again trying to contact those WP engineers to escalate the matter,
        Hope they solve the problem.
Thank you so much for bearing with the inconvenience and also bringing it to my notice.

      • WP is glitches, sadly. Thank you for trying. The mobile tech seems the most glitch with the Jetpack app. But thanks for letting me know. By mid week I’ll have more time to get onto my laptop. Take good care and have a wonderful week!

  1. What a warm and lovely gallery of orange, Terri! I love sunflowers. I started them so late and thought I wouldn’t get any flowers. It looks like I’ll have some baby ones coming up. The golden moment is so precious! It reminds me of the glittering river in the movie A River Runs Through It.

  2. Terri,
You deserve a big hug for helping your family move. That’s a big job, and I hope everything goes smoothly. Great choice of colors! I love the moon image, but my favorite is your picture on the kayak–very “artsy!” My contribution for the week also includes an orange insect on gold flowers. Look forward to your return. Joe

  3. So many wonderful oranges and things to see. Love the flowers 🌻🌼😍 Good theme for everyone.
Unfortunately it looks like my Summer will be dry so the caution of orange is appropriate 😮

  4. I love these two featured colours because they mean Autumn is finally here, Terri. Unfortunately, it’s been a bad summer for growing pumpkins this year (too much rain and too cool), so we’ll have to buy pumpkins for carving. But there are plenty in the stores, and shelves are full of Halloween candy.

Your ladybug photos are great. I’m so pleased you got her to model for you. Or was it a male ladybug? In any case, great work.

I hope all goes well with your upcoming trip and that you see some spectacular autumnal sunrises and sunsets, which brings me to my entry.

    Happy autumn.

    • We have a bit of a slow start here to Autumn again with higher than normal heat, Hugh! Hopefully it won’t be like it was last year when Autumn only stuck around for a week.
Love your orange sunset image and hope you find some fall color soon!

Glad you enjoyed the ladybugs! I think these are female, I’ve read the males are smaller and don’t get out much 🙂
I doubt we’ll see much fall color on this trip as we are heading south where it will be much hotter–yuck!

  5. These beautiful warm colors are slowly showing up in my neck of the woods here in Pennsylvania. I do love the colors of fall and you shared so many beautiful ones! The glowing warm tones make me smile! And your moon… wow! Thank you!
I jumped right in this week so here is my link. Thanks for the fun Terri! And sorry I will miss you and all the other sweet friends at the Blog friends meetup! Have fun!

  6. The perfect color for the season, Terri. I love nature’s oranges. Sorry you didn’t get up to Banff, but hopefully you will before too long. Thanks for the great dive into autumn orange. Your photos can’t help but make me smile. 😀

  7. […] I was going through photos, sorting out what to post this week, when I came across this one. My immediate thought was that this should definitely have been included in yesterday’s Sunday Stills post, and its theme of Orange. Well, it’s a day late, but not a dollar short, so here it is. See more responses here. […]

  8. This is great Terri…Just realized I didn’t add my link. lol. I combined yours and marsha’s together since we were gone. I enjoyed your quotes. I love fall colors. That moon one was amazing. I’ve yet to get a really good moon photo. The sunflowers were stunning especially the ones with the bee and the ladybug. Of course sunrises and sunsets are my favorite.

  9. How wonderful Terri, all of your photos show the colours perfectly. The ladybug on the sunflower and golden champagne are great. You have captured the various colours and themes really well as you always do! I hope all goes well with your family’s move in the next few weeks. We’re also away travelling up to Queensland to see my youngest daughter and her family so I will take a short break too. Thanks again for hosting us.

  10. Your moon shot is exquisite Terri – just gorgeous, as are all your vibrant colors … my favorite colors as we transition to Fall. The ladybugs are pretty in the small size and large size images … perfect in contrast to the sunflower’s petals and leaves.

  11. I can’t stop smiling thinking about you taking the little lady over to the sunflower for those gorgeous shots! She posed well, indeed. I’m in awe of your moon and the sunset photos. I’m with you in thinking it didn’t really look blue when I saw it in our skies in WI either. I’m glad to read your break was successful and that you were able to get much done. YAY!! Enjoy your next week off too. Thanks again for hosting Sunday Stills. I guess my pingback didn’t work (again)…I’m never really sure why it happens. Oh well. https://www.quaintrevival.com/blog-maintenance-things-reminded-me-of-how-time-flies-when-youre-having-fun-as-a-personal-blogger/

    • Thanks so much, Shelley! I suppose we photographers will do what it takes to get the shot, right? We head out this Wednesday, then by Thursday, the fun begins. My Step-mom is a hoarder, but she has thrown a lot away. I’ll be sure to assist her with more, when she’s not looking, sorry to say 😉 I really enjoy hosting the challenge after 5 years already. Once we head for home I can spend more time reading and replying. I still scratch my head why your pingbacks don’t work–so weird–do you have any trouble with others’ blogs? And I usually get emails about pingbacks but none today. WP has some issues, still.

      • Yes, we do what we can to get the shots we want!
I’m sending you helpful vibes to weed out the non-essential hoarded items. It’s hard to move so much stuff.
I’m thankful you enjoy the hosting – you’ve gotten into a great groove and make it look so smooth!
As far as pingbacks go? I have yet to figure out why they work sometimes and not others. My post did have 4 pingbacks and maybe it has to do with the pingbacks being attached to the comment section or not? I wish I could figure it out. WP without issues would be a miracle 😏😊
I wish you safe travels and a happy homestead for them!

  12. A posing ladybug! What fun. Loved that you were able to throw in some unique gold photos to inspire us all. Both the moon and the champagne were fun surprises to find. Really liked the kayak photo styling as well. Hope the Phoenix area move goes as smooth as a move can go. We’ve finally cooled down to low to mid 80s keeping us comfortable here while the new house build progresses.

  13. I’m having a window of internet access so I’m making the most of it 😄 Love your choices, Terri – the sunset and sunrise are spectacular, and all the florals too. A lovely golden moment 🙂

  14. Wow, these are all stunning shades of orange. I love the one you did for Tanka Tuesday. It glows! I’ll write to that one this week. The shimmering glass of champagne is a gorgeous still life. It should be on the cover of a wine or food magazine. Your ladybug is a cutie. You almost made her into a pet! Seriously, this may be my favorite of all your posts. They just get better and better.

  15. I had so many images that would work for this challenge that I had a hard time narrowing it down. Moving is never fun, but I hope you find some enjoyment from the travel. Perhaps you’ll even sneak in a break to meet up with some fellow bloggers 😉

    • Hi Ingrid! I’m glad we have the time and energy to move my parents with family help. It will all be good. There is a rumor about a blog meet-up in Scottsdale–check with Marsha. I think Jodie is coming too. Sept 21. Would love to see you!

  16. Beautiful images and words to grab as we walk into Autumn. When you arrive in Arizona this week, it will tell you…”just kidding”. I was surprised we still have the high temps. The good thing is we can still be in the pool…in September. Nice that you are helping your parents relocate, and I hope you are already planning that trip to Banff. That is on our list too. I especially loved the ladybugs this week, great job staging. Wonderful post. Happy Sunday., Terri
