The Flower Hour #26: Lucky Flower Shots

For the Flower Hour, share your images of flowers, gardens, fields of flowers, seasonal leaves and plants, fungus, algae, cacti, blossoms, berries, and wildflowers. Bouquets and silk/faux flowers are welcome.

There are no specific themes for the Flower Hour; just use your own photography.

Now that we’re home, enjoying our spring-like weather in our own backyard, I’m eagerly awaiting the blooming of the native arrowleaf balsamroot wild sunflowers that grow here. They look like this and typically bloom in April-May in Eastern Washington, Idaho, and Montana.

I got this lucky shot on the Centennial Trail two years ago, right next to the Spokane River. I had to go off-trail to capture this, and I’m so glad I did!

While waiting for these beauties to bloom in another week or two, here are some lucky sunflower shots complete with the birds and the bees (wink-wink).

Summer Sunflower Surprises

These cooperative little goldfinches posed quite nicely for me last summer. (Bird Images captured with Lumix FZ300 camera).

Hi Terri – First time on WP today – we had some wicked weather last night (I was fine but we had an EF-1 tornado pass through our five-mile square City, but I’m on the opposite side and had no damage, but was up until 4:00 a.m. – the severe weather was overnight and I stayed up for it, but we have ongoing bad weather unfortunately).

    Anyway … here is my post today, with a listing Lotus leaf and a brave little bird standing on it. 🙂

      • Yes, I feel very lucky to have no problems from this tornado – a little too close for comfort. I will be happy to see cooler temps on Sunday, with the frost warning on Monday. Usually it takes me until the first hot and humid week to whine about the heat/humidity, but this constant stormy period due to heat spikes has me whining already. Our storm tonight is staying to the West (as of now anyway).

  7. They’re all lovely, of course. The backlit, sunset shot of the Sunflowers is stunning but, by far, my favourite is the header (and cell phone shot!!!!!) – “Bee Incoming”. Pure amazingness. I’m a wee bit green over that one! Thanks Terri! Best part of the week – bar none! Today’s sweet happy!

  23. What great luck, indeed. Sometimes I only see the incredible details in a flower or shot after I look at the photo, later. Time, glasses, lighting…who knows? You had some great finds.

  38. Oh, I love all your photos Terri. The sunflowers are bright and clear in their golden hues.

    The Arrowleaf Balsamroot by the lake is a fantastic photo. Your lucky photos are superb! I love the incoming bee…a great moment!
