Sunday Stills Monthly Color Challenge: Tans and Peaches of August

As I take my morning walks to avoid the summer heat, I can’t help but notice how faded and dry our local landscape looks now. It sure makes for pretty contrasts of colors in August.

The vivid colors of spring are long past, as we edge into the autumn season. Think light browns, tan, beige, and peachy colors.

Thus, my inspiration for the choice of colors for the monthly color challenge.

“Light brown is a pervasive color in nature as a common color for soil, sand, grasslands, rocks, animals and vegetation. In fact, vast regions of the planet Earth appear to be light brown from space.” – John Spacey

Some birds look beautiful in their beige and tan feathers.

My neighbor’s horses, a Norwegian Fjord breed, are Dunn-colored. The foal’s name is Greer, and it is white for now.

I took this photo at the end of June, before they were sent to a local pasture so the baby could wean and eat grass. They will be back home later in the Fall.

Wait, is that a unicorn? Nope, just a trick of the camera.

Greer is a few weeks older.

With our 12th wedding anniversary coming up, I had to include our tan selves after weeks at the delta from back in the day.

Things are Just Peachy

The color peach manifests as a yellowish-orange color. Actual peaches tend to be redder.

“Peaches are a sweet reminder that summer is eternal.” Unknown

Summer offers the promise of finding great things at local Farmers’ Markets. I couldn’t resist buying a bunch of peaches there.

I planted purple and peach-colored gladioli in my garden last year. I replanted the bulbs and was happy to see them regrow this year.

I wonder if we’ll see these peachy Oregon dahlias again?

“What makes the farmer’s market a special place is that you’re creating community around food.” – Bryant Terry

Of course, I had to include my step-dog, Peaches. She and my step-mom recently moved to a retirement community near Tucson, Arizona.

Getting Together with Bloggers is Peachy Keen!

If you’re reading this post on Sunday, I’m still in Portland, Oregon, with Marsha. We met up with Miriam and Diana for brunch at Miriam’s lovely home. We spent the afternoon talking about blogging, writing, and everything else! Miriam’s hubby took a photo of us in her beautiful backyard. She conveniently wore a blouse adorned with peachy colors!

  1. Wonderful photos, Terri. I love the beautiful dahlia and the delightful gentle horses. And peaches are my favorite dessert. A blessed weekend to you.

    • Thank you, Yvette! It was fin to include the dog and horses.

We had a great time in Portland. We are playing with an idea of a “blogger bash” in 2026. Marsha and I are working on some ideas and will likely post a poll or two on our blogs. Have a a fab week!

      • The blogger bash sounds fun – and depending on what is going on in my life – and where it is located – I might be able to make it!
In the meantime – wishing you a nice Sunday

  2. Terri,

Once again, I’m late to the party, but I enjoyed your August color display very much. Dahlia are my favorite flowers and I’m sure yours will bloom out nicely. We finally got rain in Tennessee and it has improved gardens muchly. Congrats to you and Hans on your upcoming anniversary. Ours is today (14th)–54 great years. I had a few colors for August, but I chose the Crooked River Marsh in King’s Bay, GA because it’s always tan. Enjoy your weekend. Joe

  3. I can’t wait for Autumn to arrive so it can wash away the beige, dusty and light brown landscape, Terri. Frontally, we have just enough rain here in southwest Wales to keep some greenery.

I hope you had a great blogger meet-up. That’s a lovely photo of you all. I bet the conversation flowed all day.

Peaches and cream are a lovely summer dessert. Add some blueberries for extra colour.

    • Thanks, Hugh. I would absolutely add blueberries to peaches and cream! Weather-wise, its dry here, but not dusty. Portland is definitely greener and more lush than Eastern Washington.

Our blogger meet up was amazing. The group encouraged me to publish a children’s book based on my post about the Phoebes. Hmmm. Have a great week, I’m driving back home today.

  4. Hello Terri! I loved seeing Marsha; she looks great. How wonderful to meet up with all your blogger friends.
I enjoyed your tans and peaches. We are still very green here but we are enjoying the peaches. I made a peach crisp!
    Enjoy your trip my friend.

  5. How amazing to meet fellow bloggers. You all look fabulous. And happy wedding anniversary, Terri. Stay blessed.

Anyway, I enjoyed the horses, Greer, and peaches. Such adorable animals. Happy Monday!

  6. Terri, you make the end of Summer look pretty and fun … it will be more fun when it IS Fall and there are even more brown hues around. Brown is my favorite color, always has been. There are so many warm shades of brown. The peachy Dahlias are gorgeous as are the fresh peaches … now I am craving a peach. I hope your meet-up in Oregon was fruitful and enjoyable too. Safe travels home again!

    • Fruitful and peachy-keen, Linda! 🍑 I also LOVE every shade of brown! Being a redhead, browns were a color I could wear without being ridiculed! Oddly, peaches aren’t my favorite fruit 😕 I head back tomorrow. I may be getting too old for long road trips 😅

      • Brown is the best … my hair is mousy brown, so it matched every color well too. I don’t know how you do it. I had company when I drove to Toronto, but could not do it on my own.

  7. Despite starting with vibrant green in the Spring we’re already reduced to beige in the fields, Terri. It has its own beauty. I’m sure you’ll have had a fabulous time with those ladies xx

  8. I love the “tan” photos, Terri. I remember how Montana turned from green to tan each August. It’s really beautiful. I love that you girls got to meet up again this year. What fun. I wish I could be there too! 💛

    • Thank you, Colleen! I think it’s wonderful to see the change in seasons. Even dry summer! Someone needs to plan a WordPress meet up. I think there is one in Portland at the end of August. We could do a smaller one with special invitations.

  9. Mmmm, peaches…. 🙂 Alaska, at least our part, is still VERY green this time of year, though we are starting to see some yellow and red peak through. Fall is hurriedly approaching, though it can be hard to tell with all the goings on. Soon the air will have a nip, and the leaves will change in a hurry, though. Then it’ll be tan for a short time before it turns white! In the meantime, I found a photo of an traditional Alaskan cache I took. Totally tan!

  10. Hi Terri, try as I might, I couldn’t find suitable photos for this challenge. I live in the land of perpetual green. Even my archives were absent the colors beige, tan, and peach. I love your choices and see some ideas that I might have overlooked. Anyway, it’s nice that you were able to spend time with Marsha and the other two gals, whom I have seen around bloggerland over the years. Portland must be wonderful this time of year. Happy Anniversary.

  11. Beautiful views, Terri! Not autumn yet, but it won’t be long to see the full colors. It’s always fun to put faces with bloggers I follow. I haven’t met Miriam or Diana. I guess I need to visit Portland. >grin<
