Although Valentine’s Day has come and gone, I sincerely hope the day’s intended sweetness lingers in your souls. On the afternoon of Valentine’s Day, I caught a glimpse of our new neighbor carrying a bouquet of flowers into the house…aww! I didn’t know he was so sweet!

Winter’s Sugar-Coated Frosting

I keep promising fewer pics of snow and ice, but Winter is still alive and well. It is February after all. I caught this first image the other day–look at those frosty spikes on the fence. Reminds me of rock candy.

I found this image in my archives. I searched high and low for old dilapidated barns last Fall, with not much luck. This one demonstrates the sweet success of finding the perfect image for photo challenges.

  2. I always enjoy how you pair your photos with quotes Terri … I especially like the one by Shakespeare. How true that is. Weeds are already popping up. Sweet thoughts and pictures … there cannot be enough of them. I haven’t been following you all that long but do remember some of your photos with sweet Aero. What a year for loss you had last year, Aero just being one of those losses. I like that photo of the ice – very unusual. We had another ice storm on Friday night. I tried to shovel Saturday morning … we had five inches of snow in just two hours, later whittled down to three inches from the freezing rain. I shoveled just a path on the City sidewalk and from my side door to the garage. It was very heavy as it was laden with ice. Later in the day some of that melted, but not the area where the sun doesn’t reach – later I’ll tackle that as it warms up and walk because we’re getting another icy precip event overnight/early Monday morning. I’m so done with Winter and have not seen the likes of Winter as you have endured.

    1. Thank you so much, Linda. I still miss Aero-perro, he was a truly sweet-dispositioned dog and a great walker for such a little guy. I’m glad Brodie is our top dog now–he is very sweet and can walk for hours! I got in the habit of adding quotes because I share for Marsha’s Wednesday Quotes and I can always find something that works to help highlight the theme.

      The whole northern US got hammered by Miss La Nina this year. Snow has fallen to some degree 5 months in a row–November thru March. I’m sharing a photo today about it. LOL! We’re told snow is still coming, but our temps lately have seen highs in the upper 40s which is below normal but the sun is higher in the sky. I’m done with winter, too, take care and be careful out walking!

      1. Brodie helps you get your steps in … I remember your pics of both Aero and Brodie walking with you.

        For years, before my boss and I left the firm and went out on our own, I did a daily thought for the day, always a quote that I tried to tailor to the time of year or a special occasion/holiday. I started it when we first got an antiquated type of e-mail called “Pine Mail” – we were not on Windows yet, so our e-mail was intra-office only. We were asked to test it amongst ourselves, so I did a quote “to all” rather than just “testing-testing” and that idea caught on. I did it for years to everyone every morning. In those days, it was little quote books I had or my mom used Salada tea bags and the tea tags had sayings, so sometimes I used the sayings from there.

        I understand we are transitioning to El Nino and that means a scorching-hot Summer. We have this icy precip overnight and I could not get rid of the ice at the house where the sun doesn’t shine, although it got to 49 degrees today – I was out there chopping away late afternoon today. Stay safe as well and don’t pack your snowshoes away just yet!

      3. I wonder if people even use those box calendars now Terri? I had a Far Side at a glance calendar too. People use their computer calendars now. I bought them for the laugh or the quote. Hang on tight as we switch seasons … the past few years we go from a wintry-mix Spring to horribly hot and humid.

  4. I bet you do miss Aero’s sweet mug. Those eyes!! Those floppy ears. I miss having a pup around. Snuggled up with one of our kitties right now, though.

    Will get my photos for January and February out this week. My favorite of these photos of yours – aside from the darling fur babies – would be the snowy landscape with the barn or house in the distance. Gorgeous. Frigid. Lonely.

    We finally arrived in San Diego…to cold, windy weather. Hopefully, things will get better for your visit later next month. I got out for a few photo ops here in Coronado and wanted to share one that I thought was high on the “sweet” scale. Loved, loved the barn pic. Have a great weekend. Joe

  8. I love the photo of the old barn in the snow, Terri. It would make such a lovely Christmas card.

    And so lovely to see Aero’s sweet face again. The bunch of mixed coloured tulips is always a way to make any dull, grey winter’s day bright and cheerful. The tulips are already making their way through the cold earth of our garden, although we won’t see the flowers until later next month.

    I’ve had a photo I’ve wanted to use for Wordless Wednesday for months, and the theme for this week’s Sunday Still means I can now use it.

    1. Thanks so much, Hugh! I was so happy to find that barn image in my archives. Our pets don’t live as long as we do so we cherish the memories of many sweet faces as they come and go in our lives. Our only evidence of spring is the tiny buds on our young trees. Looking forward to your WW post!

    1. Thank you, Ali! I miss my plumeria but I was so happy to have two plants when we lived in Northern California. Before we moved to the cold north I rehomed them to my daughter’s home in San Diego where they are thriving. I took tons of pics while I had them and take more when we visit. 🌸

  19. Terri, You’ve got a beautiful collection of sweet photos, especially the doggies. I had a good and “sweet” week with family and friends. This morning we hurried to the Ice Festival before the sculptures melt because today’s daytime high reached 8C (46F) and it was partly sunny.

  22. I am working on my Lens Artist photos for softness, which goes well with the topic of “sweet.” Your frosty photo looks so much like rock candy. I loved seeing little Aero’s sweet face, too. He was such a cuddle bug. Your birds and bees not so much – especially the bee! He looks downright mean as he attacks that innocent flower! You definitely found some grid lines. I think I took a similar picture as we traveled along, but I’m not sure I got the barn. I definitely didn’t have any pictures of snow while I was there!

    I know there must be something sweet in my archives. In fact, I’d like to eat something sweet right now, thanks to your post! The sweetest thing for us is that our condo passed appraisal and we close and move next week. We can’t think about much else!

    1. Thank you for all those kind comments, Marsha! That snowy grid with the barn was taken about a year ago on our way to Grand Coulee Dam. Forgot I had it! I know, I’m thinking of something sweet, too–huge congrats on the appraisal going through! You are going to bee busy!

Good news is that I saw your post before walking this morning … so I’m in the process of trying to remember some of my thoughts while walking this morning.     1. Hi Cheryl, thank you! Of course I miss Aero every day, but Brodie has become our love dog (he always was) and we have some great long walks together, something Aero struggled doing the last couple of years.
      News update on our road trip. I booked a motel just outside Bryce for April, which gives us lots of options. You might have to swing by Scottsdale for our blogger meet-up on April 5th.

  37. We’re having a sweet time here with little Miss Penny. Most of the time anyway. We’re into the potty training and some moments are less than sweet, but overall there’s a new sweetness to our days. We’re exhausted, but it’s a good exhausted.
