Autumn leaves amid clovers

Festival of Leaves: An Inspired Start to Autumn

If you have followed my blog for any length of time, you know I love posting photo challenges on Fridays. I have gotten used to the fact the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge has gone the way of the dinosaur, but we photo-bloggers have found continuing inspiration with each others’ challenges.

Having joined the pink party a little late at Becky B’s Squares in September, I was inspired by all the shades of pink that surround us in nature. So much so that I have been posting pink photos on Instagram for October’s traditional Breast Cancer Awareness Month. More about this in the Sunday Stills challenge this week!

I was pleased to see that Dawn, from The Day After, is again hosting her photo challenge Festival of Leaves. Because you know how much I dislike Autumn

There is still a LOT of green and very little color this early in October.

But, the Festival of Leaves is slowly working its way to the ground amid confused pink clovers.

In a couple of weeks, we may see this!

Keep your fingers crossed!

  1. I’ve always loved autumn for the brief changes in weather and leaves. Only a few weeks in any one zone are marked by the outbursts of extraordinary colors we associate with autumn. Your photos do a great job of capturing the season, especially the last one, my favorite. (Don’t play favorites, Shari, not nice – but I can’t help myself.)

  2. One of the best things about living in the Midwest is that we can have spectacular autumns. Our trees are just beginning to turn. Hopefully the extensive rains that have started up again will not rip all the leaves from the trees before we get our colorful fall show! I live in a village called Maple Bluff and the Maple trees are stunning in their bright colors.

  3. We actually have gotten a (very) little rain here the last two days so I’m hoping the change in weather will bring out some color. On my husband’s and my evening walk, we pass a very scraggly liquid amber… that’s the only fall color I’ve seen so far. I guess I’ll just have to live vicariously through other people’s pictures 🙂

  4. I love autumn, too. The weather is more comfortable and the leaves are beautiful. I dreamed of autumn when I was growing up in Venezuela and never imagined that one day, I’d walk through piles of colorful leaves!

  5. How we wished we could have been in California the last two months. Well, kind of, because we don’t like the cold and rain. Instead, we spent our time on Vancouver Island (which is awesome to visit), following autumn, or having autumn follow us… from Northern Washington into British Columbia and back into Washington. Yep, the maple trees of Olympic National Park have already lost ALL of their leaves, and we have been walking on leaf-covered paths… in September and October. Talk about an early fall for us! 🙂 Soon, though, we will be back in sunny California! Beautiful shots, Terri!
