Early this morning in the US, we turned our clocks forward to save daylight. Is anyone else moving to “Daylight Saving Time”? I hate losing that extra hour and might be a little grouchy the next few days.
Nothing that a walk in the forest can’t cure…
“Nature in her green, tranquil woods heals and soothes all afflictions.” ~ John Muir
I’m green with envy at the US states that don’t change their clocks around to adjust for daylight.
Arizona is one state that stays on standard time all year round…
…as does Hawaii.
As we get closer to the spring Equinox, the morning sunlight shows off the green decor I have around the house.
Around here nothing shouts spring more than our very own, Nine Mile Falls.
Perhaps you prefer the nightlife?
“Wicked” came to Spokane in March 2022. To commemorate the occasion, the Pavilion in Riverfront Park was lit with green all month.
But any frog will tell you…

I love the green, Terri! The best of living in Arizona was that we didn’t change the clocks there. If it wasn’t such a HOT place to live it would be perfect. But, here we are again. Cranky is the perfect word for losing an hour of sleep! LOL!

Thank you, Colleen. I wouldn’t mind staying on standard time year round. It would be dark in the mornings but as far north as we are, the sun stays up longer anyway. I don’t do well with changing the clocks in spring. Foggy describes me today.

Great photos Terri. The green water in that waterfall is unreal and I love the frog. Sorry about your lost hour. I like that I don’t have to deal with that anymore. It wasn’t the change that bothered me so much as having to remember to change all the timepieces! Here’s mine this week: https://grahamsisland.com/2024/03/10/how-green-are-my-valleys/

Thank you, Graham! Our falls goes through several color changes while they’re falling, green is now because the lake is so full from snow melt. Yep, I hate the time change, especially this one, and it takes me weeks to “recover,” much less fix all the manual clocks in the house ;/

I love the hummer against the green background. And the falls. What causes the water to be so green? Your happy smile in the sunshine. The inviting forest makes me want to take a walk and ponder the quote by Muir. The rainbow and the bright blue skies, stunning. The green frog from your mom is such a sweet treasure. I have a frog hanging on a plant too, he’s green, but he’s not as precious as yours is. We practiced all week to get up so that the day spring ahead actually happened we weren’t in shock. I was still tired, it’s amazing how one hour can mess with us so much. I hope your week adjusting to the silliness of the time change thing goes well for you. Spring is just around the corner and I can’t wait!! 😍🥰😎

Thanks so much for your kind comments, Shelley! Sometimes the falls look brownish, but when full like this from snowmelt, the river is so full it must pick up the green from the trees. Even the water is greenish at the bottom.
That was a good idea to practice waking up, to get used to the time change but it doesn’t seem to work for me. My brain still know the “real” or former time for weeks. Even my dog is confused when he thinks he’s ready for dinner 🙂 We added an hour of sunlight to the evening but its dark in the am for a couple of weeks. Sigh.

You’re welcome. That’s interesting about the green water.
I must confess that my practice week caught up with me by Sat and Sun, I was exhausted. The time change no matter what kicks me in the you know what! I hope we all recover from it in a couple of weeks so we can enjoy spring.

Lovely greens, Terri! Alaska changed its clocks today, too. Pretty ridiculous, because we are gaining over 5 minutes of light a day, so we’ll have overtaken this change within 2 weeks anyway. There are petitions to end the change every year…I still don’t know why we are still doing it!
LikeLiked by 1 person
thank you, Cathy! This time change to daylight saving is ridiculous especially if some US states don’t follow suit. If WA stayed on standard time, it wouldn’t be too bad because, like you, we get three minutes a day of light that catches us up. I’m used to the dark winter mornings. I read that some states want to go to year round daylight saving time which ends up making it too dark in the am for kids going to school. Standard time year round is better for all of us IMHO!
LikeLike
Agreed! In the winter here, kids go to and come home from school in the dark regardless of standard or savings time. But I prefer more light in the morning, so I’m all in favor of staying in standard time! 😉

How lucky I don’t deal with time change. We’ve always stayed the same where I live. No drastic adjustments. As to green… well it would be drastic if we had green in March which is full of beautiful white snow and blue skies. I was sure that frog was real! Love the photo of the falls.

I remember when “they” lengthened to daylight saving time in the US to closer to when yours is, Jo. I remember as a kid in San Diego, that daylight saving time began around Easter (usually mid April). Why they made it earlier is part of the problem with this whole subject. Now it will take me weeks to adjust.

That trail above the John Muir quote looks very inviting Terri – so does all the greenery. And that hummingbird with the green background is so inquisitive looking. We’ve got a while to go for that much greenery here, especially after our snow this morning. It’s “magical snow” – just around long enough to cause a ton of accidents, then quietly exits. I wished we’d have left the time as is – I have to walk later again in the morning for a while now. That’s a cute frog and Kermit was always clever, including strumming his banjo and singing “The Rainbow Connection”.
Here is my post with some green in it, in an unlikely spot:

Hi Terri, we don’t put our clocks forward in the UK until the last Sunday in March, so this year they go forward at 1am on 31st March. That’s Easter Sunday, so I’m hoping the Easter Bunny knows he has one less hour to deliver chocolate eggs in the UK.
Also, I was once taught a trick on how to not miss that extra hour of sleep. So now we put the clocks in our house forward at 3pm on the day before they go forward, hence when we go to bed, we think it’s already late.
You’ve captured some great photos’ especially the one of the forest. I like walking in the forest too. Given that I live in the wettest city in the UK, we always have a lot of green on offer.

Thanks, Hugh! We have a lot of forest views to share! Funny, my wall calendar shows the UK DST on Easter Sunday, as well as other UK/CAN holidays–I thought it was a locally-generated calendar–helpful though!
Thanks for the time trick, I’ve tried everything, my temperament is too related to time and details, so I suffer a few days. The US used to wait until around then to change the clocks about 15 years ago. As far north as we live now, changing the clocks earlier just makes it darker longer in the mornings. And daylight here goes til after 10 pm! Thanks for adding your pic to Sunday Stills! I love all that green!
