Sunday Stills Monthly Color Challenge: Saving Daylight with #Green

Early this morning in the US, we turned our clocks forward to save daylight. Is anyone else moving to “Daylight Saving Time”? I hate losing that extra hour and might be a little grouchy the next few days.

Nothing that a walk in the forest can’t cure…

Suburban pocket forest

I’m green with envy at the US states that don’t change their clocks around to adjust for daylight.

Getting hydrated

Arizona is one state that stays on standard time all year round…

Rainbow over fountain Hills Arizona

…as does Hawaii.

As we get closer to the spring Equinox, the morning sunlight shows off the green decor I have around the house.

Around here nothing shouts spring more than our very own, Nine Mile Falls.

“Wicked” came to Spokane in March 2022. To commemorate the occasion, the Pavilion in Riverfront Park was lit with green all month.

    • Thank you, Cathy! Our falls are running high right now. They’re always a beautiful sight. My mom bought me that frog 20+ years ago along with a small turtle. They are designed to hook onto a plant or flower pot. It does look real up close 😆

  1. I love the green, Terri! The best of living in Arizona was that we didn’t change the clocks there. If it wasn’t such a HOT place to live it would be perfect. But, here we are again. Cranky is the perfect word for losing an hour of sleep! LOL!

  2. That is a lot of lovely green! We have still a couple of weeks before we loose an hour.
Temperature is still around zero, but the days are getting longer and soon, hopefully, there will be some new green around here as well. 🙂

  3. I love the hummer against the green background. And the falls. What causes the water to be so green? Your happy smile in the sunshine. The inviting forest makes me want to take a walk and ponder the quote by Muir. The rainbow and the bright blue skies, stunning. The green frog from your mom is such a sweet treasure. I have a frog hanging on a plant too, he’s green, but he’s not as precious as yours is. We practiced all week to get up so that the day spring ahead actually happened we weren’t in shock. I was still tired, it’s amazing how one hour can mess with us so much. I hope your week adjusting to the silliness of the time change thing goes well for you. Spring is just around the corner and I can’t wait!! 😍🥰😎

    • Thanks so much for your kind comments, Shelley! Sometimes the falls look brownish, but when full like this from snowmelt, the river is so full it must pick up the green from the trees. Even the water is greenish at the bottom.
That was a good idea to practice waking up, to get used to the time change but it doesn’t seem to work for me. My brain still know the “real” or former time for weeks. Even my dog is confused when he thinks he’s ready for dinner 🙂 We added an hour of sunlight to the evening but its dark in the am for a couple of weeks. Sigh.

  4. Lovely greens, Terri! Alaska changed its clocks today, too. Pretty ridiculous, because we are gaining over 5 minutes of light a day, so we’ll have overtaken this change within 2 weeks anyway. There are petitions to end the change every year…I still don’t know why we are still doing it!

    • thank you, Cathy! This time change to daylight saving is ridiculous especially if some US states don’t follow suit. If WA stayed on standard time, it wouldn’t be too bad because, like you, we get three minutes a day of light that catches us up. I’m used to the dark winter mornings. I read that some states want to go to year round daylight saving time which ends up making it too dark in the am for kids going to school. Standard time year round is better for all of us IMHO!

      • Agreed! In the winter here, kids go to and come home from school in the dark regardless of standard or savings time. But I prefer more light in the morning, so I’m all in favor of staying in standard time! 😉

  5. How lucky I don’t deal with time change. We’ve always stayed the same where I live. No drastic adjustments. As to green… well it would be drastic if we had green in March which is full of beautiful white snow and blue skies. I was sure that frog was real! Love the photo of the falls.

  6. It’s weird having the clocks change, and not, within the same country, isn’t it, huge though it is? Ours don’t change here till the end of this month and I always hate losing that hour too. But we do have heaps of green around.

  7. I love your inviting photo, of a beautiful trail in the woods, and agree with your sentiments, ‘nothing that a walk in the forest can’t cure.’ There is something so therapeutic about the color green! Here’s my offering: Spring Green – Cats and Trails and Garden Tales

    • If it wasn’t for evergreens, it would be mostly brown here, Dawn. My hydrangeas show some new growth. I’m glad you like the frog… my mom gave it to me many years ago. Wishing you more green sooner than later!

  8. That trail above the John Muir quote looks very inviting Terri – so does all the greenery. And that hummingbird with the green background is so inquisitive looking. We’ve got a while to go for that much greenery here, especially after our snow this morning. It’s “magical snow” – just around long enough to cause a ton of accidents, then quietly exits. I wished we’d have left the time as is – I have to walk later again in the morning for a while now. That’s a cute frog and Kermit was always clever, including strumming his banjo and singing “The Rainbow Connection”.

Here is my post with some green in it, in an unlikely spot:

They’re late: they forgot to spring forward!

  9. Hi Terri, what a fabulous array of greens you’ve shared with us – I adore the frog! The forest looks a little like where I walk here in Aus but with a dirt track instead. Your Nine Mile dam looks beautiful too! Such a great selection and very well presented as always 🙂 Thanks for having us!

  10. I hate the time change too, and it takes me a few days to recover. No nature walks here, it was snowing and cold today! Rest of the week looks good, though! 🙂

There’s something so cheerful (maybe even hopeful) about the colour green. Thoughts of green trees and spring abound!

I enjoyed your eclectic green photos. Nine Mile Falls is absolutely stunning and the frog is so cute. Love the markings! 😀

    • Thank you, Debbie! Snow still? We may finally get our spring this week! That will help with my morning grogginess. 9 Mile Falls is such a treat to see when it is running. My mom gave me that frog–it has its place hanging from the rim of a potted plant 🙂

  11. Lovely greens Terri and the frog made me smile 🙂 We have Daylight Saving (we call it British Summertime) but we don’t change our clocks until the end of the month, in line with the whole of Europe. I’m surprised you don’t like it. OK, we lose an hour, but we get in back in October 🙂 And meanwhile we have lovely long light evenings to enjoy 🌞

  12. Love all the green, Teri. And I’m with you about the time change. It’s such a pain. I don’t understand why we have to deal with this year after year. Ugh. But you’re right, nothing a walk outside won’t cure. Hugs.

  13. Sorry, no lost hour here, as you pointed out. Green is really your color, and I’m wearing it today, so today it’s my color, too. The yard with the red flowers (salvia?) is stunning. I love the first picture of the pathway, too. This is a popular post. I think everyone loves green. Have a great week. Talk to you soon! 🙂

    • Well, now were on the same time and I won’t have to calculate what time it is in AZ when I get ready to call you, Marsha. The red flowers are ginger–that was taken in Hilo. Everything was so green there of course! And I’m wearing green, too–still in long sleeves but temps are predicted to be in the low 60 here this weekend!

  14. Terri,

Great topic for this time of the year! We’re greening up nicely in East Tennessee, but the wildflowers have not yet arrived. Daylight Saving Time is always tough. We stayed up late Saturday night to watch “Oppenheimer” before the Academy Awards and I sat through church service on Sunday trying to keep at least one eye open, LOL. My green contribution is from a recent hike. Moss is always green. Thanks, and have a great week! Joe

    • Thanks, Joe! Wow, your image is so green 💚! Changing to DST messes me up but I do OK in the fall for some reason. I just watched the Academy Awards on Hulu and Oppenheimer looks really good! Have a great week!

  15. We changed our clocks as well. British Columbia’s current government has been waiting for Washington State, Oregon, and CA to adopt a single year-round time before we do the same. Sharing the same time zone doesn’t seem like a good enough reason to wait, but there you go.

  16. I agree Terri – not a fan of time changing but at least THIS one makes for longer days and more sunshine. The winter change is uber-depressing!! Loved your greens this week, especially your closing frog! Too cute 😊

  17. Hi Terri, we don’t put our clocks forward in the UK until the last Sunday in March, so this year they go forward at 1am on 31st March. That’s Easter Sunday, so I’m hoping the Easter Bunny knows he has one less hour to deliver chocolate eggs in the UK.

Also, I was once taught a trick on how to not miss that extra hour of sleep. So now we put the clocks in our house forward at 3pm on the day before they go forward, hence when we go to bed, we think it’s already late.

You’ve captured some great photos’ especially the one of the forest. I like walking in the forest too. Given that I live in the wettest city in the UK, we always have a lot of green on offer.

    • Thanks, Hugh! We have a lot of forest views to share! Funny, my wall calendar shows the UK DST on Easter Sunday, as well as other UK/CAN holidays–I thought it was a locally-generated calendar–helpful though!

Thanks for the time trick, I’ve tried everything, my temperament is too related to time and details, so I suffer a few days. The US used to wait until around then to change the clocks about 15 years ago. As far north as we live now, changing the clocks earlier just makes it darker longer in the mornings. And daylight here goes til after 10 pm! Thanks for adding your pic to Sunday Stills! I love all that green!
