  1. Such exotic looking birds, Terri. We get pigeons, sparrows, blackbirds, and crows here. I enjoy watching them, although they are not as colorful as yours.

    1. Thank you, Beth! Glad to help! April 15th seems to be the date for our hummers in Spokane.

  5. Great bird shots in the round Terri, especially the third picture down, the close-up of the hummingbird – wow!

    1. Thank you, Linda! They were very protective of their feeders and I could get pretty close to them, then use the zoom (Lumix) if needed.

      1. You were lucky to get such a great close-up. Like Wayne’s hummingbirds – his pictures always amaze me how they fight to get to the nectar ports, even standing on top of one another. I put out two dish feeders and get one hummingbird – so no fighting as there are four ports in each feeder. 🙂

  7. Great photo! Those hummingbirds are quick. Except when pirched on a feeder. Well done. 👍

    1. Hi Casey, thank you! I’ve been able to stalk them patiently and capture them in flight 😂

      1. I do the same. We have four hummingbird feeders, and yeah, I’ll be moving to the music ( partly because I have restless legs syndrome, and also I get eaten by mosquitoes if I stay still for 10 seconds) but it’s cool how those hummers get used to movement, music and whatnot, and especially when they are hungry… we have that in common. Groovy. You got skills. 📸

  8. A wonderful collection of hummingbird images. I’ve tried, with little success, to come away from opportunities to capture these fast-moving birds. You’ve done much better than I could do.

    1. Thank you, John! It takes patience and time to capture these cuties. It was easy to capture them with my lumix in our former Sacramento backyard and also at my dad’s place in the Sierra foothills. They become quite tame around their feeders. Hoping for more shots this year here in WA.

  10. Fantastic photos, Terri. Never had the pleasure of seeing a hummingbird, too cold here in Scotland, not usual in Portugal 😦

    1. Aww, I guess I naively assumed hummingbirds were everywhere, except where its too cold. Thank you, Sofia!

  11. We just had a hawk in our backyard! They are beautiful but I don’t want them getting my goldfinches!
Your bluebirds are so darling taking a bath.
    Great shots my friend!

    1. Thank you, Nancy! Last year, a chicken hawk chased one of my neighbor’s hens…luckily the hen ran under the deck and escaped.

  18. Loved your birds all around, Terri! In Sweden the red kites were almost extinct at the beginning of the century – now they are back in great numbers. Great shot! Always nic with hummingbirds as we don’t have any here.

    1. Thank you, Anne-Christine. I’d heard about that. I took that shot of the kite when we still lived in Northern California. At times we would see 20+ flying around our neighborhood at dusk. I guess it’s too cold for the hummers in Sweden.

      1. Ah, yes, too cold. I have only seen them indoors in great bird houses with aviaries.

    1. Thank you, Janis! I was thrilled to get a few good pics of them… there were a nesting pair in our tall pine trees in Sacramento. They and a huge flock of other kites would soar around the neighborhood at sunset. It was incredible!

  24. Love Anna’s! I’ve had 5 of them visiting during the winter.

    1. They are characters. They must be able to winter at your place and in the Seattle area. Too cold and dry for them to stick around here. We only see them mid-April to mid-September here.

    1. Thank you, Willow! The Anna’s Hummers were so brave and as long as there was food out they were not shy! I needed a zoom lens to capture the kite on the telephone pole as well as the bluebirds (last summer).

      1. Is that a Red Kite Terri, they were on the brink of extinction in the UK at the turn of the twentieth century, but they have been reintroduced and they are thriving.
We have lots of them in Berkshire

      2. That’s so great to hear about the red kites. I believe we had black winged kites in Northern California. I thought they were ospreys because of their black eye masks, but I later discovered they were kites. Such big birds up close!

      3. They are huge and very prehistoric looking…. Ours have distinctive delta tails so we can differentiate between them and other birds of prey 💜💜

    1. Thank you, Colleen! I dusted off some older images to share–the circles met the challenge over at Lens-Artists. All but the bluebirds in the bath are from my former backyard in Sacramento. Isn’t that Kite amazing? It took me forever to ID what kind of bird it was.
