Funny how well the goldfinch is camouflaged by the sunflower, particularly when he is eating upside down on his head!! We must have had a sweet little bird fly into our tall living room windows last week because I found the prettiest little crumpled, bright yellow body beneath the window. It looked like a tropical bird as we really don’t have a lot of pretty colorful birds in west Texas. Made me so sad for him. Gorgeous captures, Terri. Double sunshine with the bright bird and happy sunflowers.

Hi Leslie! How are you? I was thrilled to get such sharp images of the ravenous goldfinch. Aww, sorry about the bird that flew into the window. Sad when that happens. And you just reminded me to change the suet cake in the feeder! Now if all this ridiculous wildfire smoke would clear out!

I love that quote Terri – it is so true. Who does not get pleasure out of watching birds? That goldfinch is pretty agile to enjoy those seeds. I especially like the photo with the caption “Yep, I’ll contort for seeds!” They are difficult to photograph as they flit here, there and everywhere. I think they make a game of it when they see the camera! 🙂

I did a great job of stalking him, Linda. I had taken a few earlier in the week but even my zoom lens couldn’t get clear pics. He came closer to another set of sunflowers a few feet from our deck and I crept out quietly and snapped away. I was stealthy, lol!

The things we do for shots! I got pictures one time of a goldfinch on a thistle. That little guy was so engrossed he didn’t see me happily clicking away.

Goldfinches love sunflowers. When the petals were done, hubby wanted to help me cut down the flowers, I said no. The glodfinches were having a fest. Great photos, Terri!

I had never seen goldfinches until we move to Washington, Miriam. I usually keep the seed heads around until just before it snows. Thank you ❤️

Oh, Terri, I had goldfinches in SoCal. At first, I only knew they were yellow. When I got closer, I realized they were finches. Just like your photos, they perched on top and leaned down to eat the seeds. 💖

How cool! In Sacramento I saw a couple of yellow grosbeaks, definitely not gold finches.

I didn’t take photos. I can’t compare what I saw with grosbeaks. They both are pretty yellow birds. I haven’t seen yellow birds here yet.

Capturing a photo of a goldfinch is much harder than it looks. I have had them in and out of my yard and have only managed to capture one from behind. Great photos!

I had some other Goldfinch pics ready to go but he flew closer yesterday and I snapped away! These are much sharper!
