Let your images tell the story.

“No traveler, whether a tree lover or not, will ever forget his first walk in a sugar-pine forest. The majestic crowns approaching one another make a glorious canopy, through the feathery arches of which the sunbeams pour, silvering the needles and gilding the stately columns and the ground into a scene of enchantment.” ~John Muir

“Autumn whispered to the wind, ‘I fall but always rise again’.” ~ Angie Weiland-Crosby

I learned just yesterday that I had a larch in my front yard. I was wondering if there was something wrong with it, but my neighbor informed me that it’s normal for it to coat the ground with it’s golden needles. I’m enjoying learning what falls does around here!

whats the difference between Tamarack and Larch I wonder?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I don’t think there is, Wayne. Larch comes from the Latin name larix I think? I’ve heard them used interchangeably.

Tamarack is a smaller tree. Same “family” but not as big or as long living as a larch.

Good to know, Bernie 😁 Western Larch grow everywhere in northeast Washington, Idaho and Montana and I’ve seen European larch planted that thrive here too.

It appears they are different species but the same Genus.
Tamarack (Larix laricina) is also commonly called eastern larch. Western larch (Larix occidentalis) also called tamarack. Although larch and tamarack are different species, they are in the same genus and can be used interchangeably.

The header image is striking! Cheers to the colors of fall, then again, that is also a sign that winter is on the way. Well done, Terri … I hope all is well.

Beautiful Alpenglow, Terri, and I love the Muir quote. Oh, that dusting of snow, though. I’m not ready for that! Stay warm, my friend.

Thank you, Diana! I had never seen that Muir quote but it worked perfectly. Major winter storm coming our way this weekend. Funny how the news station I watch reminds us how to drive in winter conditions–good idea really. Got my winter clothes and boots at the ready!

They’re getting all excited about snow down here too, but it might be all hype. It’s that time of year! Glad you’re ready!

I remember we didn’t really get snow until late November here last year. Best to be prepared though!

That alpenglow photo is so fabulous! We planted a larch this year but one day the needles were just gone (darn wind) but maybe next year I can get some photos with it.

Autumn is glorious. I enjoyed your snow photos earlier this week. It is way to warm here, still around 50F. I’m going to visit my little sister further north next month, hoping to see some snow then. Have a wonderful week!
