A Tortoise Crossed the Road

Not So Fleet-Footed

A Tortoise Crossed the Road

I took a much-needed bike ride today in the cool morning breeze and stopped to see a tortoise crossing the bike trail. The Park Ranger dutifully guarded the little guy as he slowly ambled his way across the trail, making sure cyclists didn’t accidentally run him over.

I hadn’t planned to post for the Weekly Photo Challenge today, but I couldn’t resist sharing this fleeting moment in time for the theme of Evanescent.

  1. Nice, photo, Terri! I bike along the lakefront in Chicago and come across all kinds of fun aspects of nature, too. I think that is one of the benefits of biking, besides the great cardio. You get to cover a lot of ground and remain in touch with your surroundings. Although I live in downtown Chicago, I see Lake Michigan, sunrises, sparrows, squirrels, rabbits, ducks and geese every day. They certainly add to my enjoyment of the ride.

  2. It warms my heart to see people help out wildlife, directly or indirectly. This photo reminded me of something similar in Yosemite a few months ago, where a deer was walking along the road, we slowed down and put our hazard lights on and the ranger car behind us, coaxed the deer along safely, warning oncoming traffic, until it took off in the woods.
