The Flower Hour #42: Floral ABCs Featuring the Letters J, K, & L

Hooray, we’re back to the Floral ABCs this week! This week, we’re sharing three flowers (or plants, or trees!) that begin with the letters J, K, and L. They don’t have to be blooming or in season right now—anything from your archives is welcome.

If you’re stumped, feel free to get creative and use the scientific name.

For the Flower Hour, share your images of flowers, gardens, fields of flowers, seasonal leaves and plants, fungus, algae, cacti, trees and tree blossoms, berries, and wildflowers. Bouquets and silk/faux flowers are welcome.

I’m so glad you are enjoying this challenge. This week has indeed been a challenge for me to find a plant, flower or tree that begins with K. So I cheated, but only for the sake of an example 😊

Let’s start with Letter J. I share two and I won’t make you guess this week!

Drumroll for Letter K, and don’t roll your eyes…

Uh, yeah… the shamrock with K at the end, is a bit of a cheat… but ya gotta be creative!

I’m counting on my friends in Australia and other tropical locations to share your Ks!

I am also making it up with a bonus Painted Lady butterfly on Lavender fresh from my garden.

Anyone can join the Flower Hour with their original photos. You can also use AI tools to edit or reimagine your images. New flower images are welcome, and archived images are encouraged. You have all week to link to this post.

New to The Flower Hour photo challenge? Please check out my page for more information! I encourage “double-dipping” with other blog challenges if you do not want to create a separate post.

A Look-Ahead, for the planners…

8/18 FH #44 Floral ABCs—Letters M, N, O

You do not have to participate in this theme at all; simply share a flower, plant or tree of your choosing, as long as it is a version of YOUR original photograph!

Hi Terri, I couldn’t find any flowers beginning with these letters, only two wildflowers that included either the letter K or L: https://tranature.com/2026/08/09/silent-sunday-beauty-in-the-glade/

  10. Hi Terri, The picture of the butterfly on the lavender is spectacular. I love the jacaranda trees. Bangalore, my city is full of them and they somehow make summer bearable with their refreshing colour. Here’s mine for today…from Australia 🙂

We have a jackaranda tree but it always frosts in January. We have to trim the dead branches every year. It has only bloomed once.

      1. Yes! That’s how I feel when I get a perfect shot like that. My butterfly pic today spurred me to return to the Botanic Gardens to see if I could get some more butterfly shots. I walked around, with all those 100s of blooms and saw one butterfly, high up, embedded in some greenery. Go figure!

Very impressionistic (Monet would be jealous!). And the two shots of the lavender – butterfly and hummingbird – now you’re just showing off! Lovely post again, Terri, and mostly, thank you for reminding us to spread a little beauty each week! xx

    1. Thank you, Pam! Jacarandas seem to like Mediterranean climates, this one was in San Diego. No opinion about my shamrocK cheat? LOL! We all could use some beauty this week. The wildfire situation here is dire. But we are safe where live.

    1. Thank you, Bernie! Good eye and memory, but no the jacaranda grows in San Diego and that one was found in a park. You’re thinking of the ginkgoes that had been landscaped into the circular patterns. I was trying to get pics of the purple glad that just bloomed framed against the lavender, and whoosh, a hummer flew in! All luck!

I had a stroke of luck while searching my photos “succulents” in hopes of a good shot of kalanchoe. No kalanchoe, but one of the photos did have another succulent variety that starts with a K!! https://morecoffeebreaks.blogspot.com/2026/08/flower-hour-luck-and-floral-alphabet.html
