The Flower Hour #48: Floral ABCs Featuring S,T,U and V

alphabet graphic

If you are playing along with the Floral ABCs this week, for each letter, you can share at least one flower, plant or tree. This week we’re exploring those that begin with the letters S, T, U, and V.

For the Flower Hour, share your images of flowers, gardens, fields of flowers, seasonal leaves and plants, fungus, algae, cacti, trees and tree blossoms, berries, and wildflowers. Bouquets and silk/faux flowers are welcome.

We are getting down to the last few letters of the alphabet! Thank you all for your support and participation. I appreciate any and all entries, whether they reflect the subtheme or not. I enjoy identifying flowers and learning more about them; I hope you do, too!

Of course, I would share a sunflower for Letter S! (Have you met me?) Look at this bronze beauty, discovered on a farm in Green Bluff, Washington.

I couldn’t resist adding two for T’s. I’ll save the tulips for another day.

For Letter U, I had to hunt through my files! I knew I had the Myrtle Spurge lurking in my media files, and there it is! Yep, I added “Upright” for U because it’s part of the name.

Upright Myrtle Spurge (Euphorbia rigidia) is a distinctive evergreen perennial with trailing-to-upright stems covered in fleshy, blue-green leaves arranged in neat spirals. In spring, it produces eye-catching clusters of bright yellow-green bracts that resemble flowers.” (SOURCE)

It is considered an invasive species in Washington State. I discovered this plant in the fields near our home.

Last but not least this week, is Letter V. I knew I had a V flower in my files. My Mom LOVED vincas, so I scoured my 20 years of photos in my cloud. They prefer sun but can handle shade and do well in pots.

Periwinkle (Vinca) gets its common name from an ancient Latin name for the plant. Its botanical name, Vinca, has been used in some form for nearly 2,000 years.

Remember, there are no specific themes for the Flower Hour, but please use your own photography from your archives or new images. Your original images reimagined with AI tools in post-editing are also welcome. And you have all week to link to this post.

New to The Flower Hour photo challenge? Please check out my page for more information! I encourage “double-dipping” with other blog challenges if you do not want to create a separate post.

As we head into Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and Spring in the Southern, seasonal blooms and leaves on trees are welcomed and encouraged!

Reminder: I’ll be on a two week break from the blog while we visit Europe October 2 – 14. During this time, Pam has graciously agreed to host the Flower Hour on Oct 6 and Oct 13. Please stop by her blog and subscribe to get her posts.

  1. Hi, Terri! 🙋

You have such an awesome garden of flowers! I like all the flowers you’ve shown here, but the vinca is my absolute favorite. 👍🤩

I hope you’re having a very wonderful day! And yes, my Wi-Fi issues have finally been solved; it turns out that a rodent tried to cut the power adapter’s cable. No crashes in the last 48 hours. ☺️

Enjoy your day, and stay amazing! ☀️

    1. Aren’t the red ones stunners, Jo? This time of year, our landscape is a little dry and drab. The sunflowers keep it cheery!

  3. I have not seen Dalmatian or bronze red Red Sunflower before. I love all your images, Terri. The red sunflower resting on the other sunflower turned away from your lens is a brilliant composition. You have a great eye for light and storytelling in your images. Inspiring! Thank you!

  6. A lovely post Terri, my mum’s name was Violet Joan, but she only used the Joan …when she was very old and in hospital she would ignore the nurses if they called her violet and only answered to Joan.

I love the flower Violet beautiful and gentle like my mum.
