For Wordless Wednesday, let your images tell the story.

Watching fledglings is such fun! We have a single parent (don’t know what happened to the mate) Canada goose with 6 babies! They live between our pond and all our neighbors ponds. I have been amazed at how well this single parent has protected these six goslings. They have now turned into ‘teenagers’, almost as big as their parent.

How cool to see the geese mature, Mitzy. Sad she is a single parent though. As it’s now June, I doubt the Phoebes will lay another clutch. But they’re still hanging around our property. They’ll migrate south in September. Enjoy your teenage geese!

I’m sad the babies didn’t make it, Terri. We’ve had the same happen here, and it’s hard to understand. Beautiful quote and I love the AI image. 💗

Thank you, Eugi. They seemed pretty immature when they died. It happens. My neighbor thought a cat got up there. We were gone and my dog doesn’t allow cats on our property.

Thank you, Hazel. They were the cutest little things. I’m sure they’re grown up and building their own nests somewhere.

AI is doing a good job. Sorry for the missing babies, Terri! My son-in-law found a nest with four cut tiny eggs. I found out they were from the Junco bird. But sadly, three eggs were stolen, probably by the squirrel. Then the mama junco just abandoned the last egg. By the way, my husband and I are leaving Saturday for our Italy trip. I’ll talk with you when we return. Diana would liek to get together in the summer and Marsha is coming and would like to meet. Hope to see you.

Thank you, Miriam. Nature can be harsh. Wow, Italy, how fun! I’m not sure I’ll be able to visit Portland this summer. Depends on when. My brother comes up mid July for a few weeks to get out of the Arizona heat. Safe travels and bon voyage, my friend.

It makes sense that your brother comes to the PNW, Terri! Our summer is never too hot. I look forward to our trip.

Yes, the timing was rough. Even if this couple leaves, they’ll return next spring hopefully. Thank you, Toni!

Sorry to hear the babies didn’t make it. I’ve had instances here when the babies fell out of the nest or the nest fell out of the tree. It’s very sad but not much to be done about it. Let’s hope the parents have another go.

It happens a lot I’m sure. The parents seem to be sticking around and protecting the nest. Thanks, Graham!

I hope Mama Phoebe has the opportunity to have another brood before Summer is over Terri. Such a sad ending to these babies. I liked the Emily Dickinson quote as well … I am sure they return to see their humble beginnings. I think I told you I watched some Robins fledge and one flew to the fence right by me, still a bit wobbly and I got its picture and of course had to make a blog post about it. The next few days it hung out on the roof or fence – it was either a ham, or just friendly. 🙂

I’m glad you understood this post, Linda. I lightened it up by adding last year’s babies. I was so devastated when I found this out from my neighbor two days before my Dad’s service. I made that AI image so I could cope.
Both Phoebes are sticking around and they may lay another clutch. You’re right about your Robin being friendly. It, and these Phoebes feel safe in our yard. My neighbor suspected a cat got to the nest while we were gone. I do know the swallows fledged already. I think birds get territorial while they are here. Thanks again, Linda. ❤️🐦

I hope they return Terri so you can enjoy them again like last year. Nature is cruel sometimes.

Thank you, Donna. I’m sad the babies didn’t survive. I was hoping for another front row seat to watch the fledglings again.

Thank you, Jo. Last year’s fledglings seemed flabbergasted and stuck together for several days. It was a real treat to watch them mature.

Thank you, Robbie. My neighbor found part of the nest down on May 16. And one of the baby birds was found dead. But the Phoebes seem to be adding to their nest and could begin another clutch. 🤞
