Sunday Stills: I Like to Ride My #Bike

Let’s end the month of May with a better-late-than-never celebration of bicycles! May was National Bicycle Month according to SOURCES.

Years of Cycling in Sacramento

I LOVED the American River Bike Trail in Sacramento when we lived nearby. I miss the easy access to the trail, just 9 minutes by bike, from our former home.

On the bike trail, I enjoyed miles of views of the American River, as well as the variety of cyclists and fitness enthusiasts.

According to this SOURCE, the trail is 32 miles (51 km) long and is used as a major recreational destination, as well as a commuter artery for cyclists. The trail is considered one of the longest paved purpose-built bike trails in the country.

This was my last ride in October 2020 before we moved to Washington.

Sacramento State University, where I studied for two degrees and later worked as a Lecturer, is easily reached by the bike trail, resulting in many bike racks on campus.

The Sacramento State University Aquatic Center at nearby Lake Natoma offered students the opportunity to ride a water bike for the first time!

Here in Nine Mile Falls, we have the amazing Centennial Trail nearby, but I can’t ride my bike to it. Rather, I have to load my bike into the back of the car or hubby’s truck and drive down the “treacherous” rural highway to the trail.

If you love the beach, bicycling on a beach boardwalk is also exciting and refreshing.

This pink motorcycle and sidecar for a faithful dog just cracked me up!

At my daughter’s wedding in 2023, the bride and groom struck a pose on his motorcycle, which proved to be quite practical in San Diego for easy parking and maneuverability.

Last but not least, we were surprised to see this talented unicyclist!

  2. Great selection Terri. Love the final shadow photo. Is your local highway that dangerous? That’s too bad. The ones here are a bit dodgy too, but the main highway is wide and has mostly good shoulders. Speaking of which, here’s mine today: https://grahamsisland.com/2026/05/31/get-on-your-bike-and-ride-2/

  5. Loved your post Terri and you have the perfect closing quote with it! The unicyclist looks quite comfortable as she pedals along – good for her 😉, I’d be flat on my face!!! And of course thanks for including the threesome and the nod to our challenge this week!

  11. Cycling is a fun form of exercise and your photos have certainly captured the spirit of it! And now there are E-bikes, to make the journey a bit easier. 😎 LOVE the doggie sidecar, and your daughter, the bride, on the motorcycle! 😀 And, of course, the San Diego (I think) boardwalk. 💖

  13. In Tucson this year, we started walking the Rillito River Walk that runs behind our apartment complex. There are more bikes on that road than walkers. Those relatively silent bikes make the “Passing on left” calls from the bikers coming up behind us often gives us a startle.

    1. Bike trails are crazy busy, John. Our Centennial trail here has so many hills, you need an ebike just to navigate it. I’ve been the recipient of those “on the left ” shouts dozens of times in the past, and have had to utter a few myself.
