Sunday Stills: Show Your Patriotism with #Flags

In mid-June, many folks celebrated Flag Day on June 14th. As we approach US Independence Day on July 4th and Canada Day on July 1st, let us all share our country’s flags this week.

I opted to use some creativity with my images, since multiple images of flags would be considered tedious. I enjoy using filters from an App called Painnt, or experimenting with creative post-editing.

  9. Early Happy 4th of July, Terri.

Here in the UK, being made up of four nations, we also have flags for each country, as well as the Union Jack flag for the United Kingdom. I see more Welsh flags flying than Union Jacks. Our Welsh flag is green and white, featuring a large red dragon. Very different to the Union Jack flag.

Keep safe with all those fireworks going off. Thank goodness Toby and Austin won’t hear them. It’s not until November 5th that we have fireworks to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night. But thankfully, light shows are becoming more popular now than fireworks.

    1. We hear the illegal fireworks around our neighborhood already, Hugh. We’re staying home July 4th in case a stray spark lands close by. But the local illegal show is quite good! We sit in our side yard for the best view. Brodie hates the noise but he tolerates watching with us. He seems to make the connection with the lights in the sky and the noise.

Some bloggers shared their international flags. I enjoyed seeing them. The Welsh flag sounds like a fun flag to see. Enjoy the weekend!

  18. That’s a nice collection of photos of flags Terri. I like your new avatar at the end too, just perfect for the upcoming holiday. I liked all the quotes, but found the Jane Fonda quote very interesting. I wonder if she even considered living in Canada? My post will be along at 11:00 p.m. and, just because I like to be different sometimes, I have American flag bunting. 🙂 I found it at Heritage Park right after Memorial Day weekend. I didn’t include a Canadian flag, even though would technically be my country since I am a Canadian citizen, but soon to be living here in the U.S. for 59 years. Happy 4th to you too!

    1. Thank you, Linda! I’ve only been to two other countries, on the North American continent, so very few other flags. Luckily I had some images from two rodeos. They like to open with patriotic display of flags.

      1. Hi Terri – I remember being impressed with the person on the horse standing and holding that big flag when you went to the rodeo. Pretty amazing agility. (I’m sorry for the late reply. I have been battling internet issues the last two weeks and it got worse after last Friday when the animal chewed on the circuit wires in a substation. We had a blip of lost power in the a.m., but from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. there was no power in a widespread area after the back-up circuit was overtaxed from the heat and failed. This is the second time this has happened – before it was a squirrel, likely the culprit again and it electrocuted itself on the wires causing a widespread outage. Luckily I have an instant-on generator as it was 99F, but I lost my internet for three or four hours and it’s been wobbly ever since. I finally shut down my laptop the last two nights as I kept losing internet. Finally they did an over-air “modem restore fix” and I’m back hopefully for good.)

      2. Thank you, Linda! I’m so sorry about your power outage and internet woes. It hit 99 here today, with “cooling” tomorrow. Cooling due to high winds which creates wildfire danger.
I actually put a big box fan on the phoebe nest just to move the air. The parents are doing their best by feeding their babies live insects which provide moisture. Sigh…
Hope you’re staying cool and connected! 😉

      3. Thank you Terri – I’m happy that ordeal is over and this over-the air “fix” seems to be working. Temps of 99 or more is just plain unbearable. I hope you stay cool inside until this passes. With our high dew points and humidity, it makes me want to just stay inside and not venture out. That’s nice what you did for the Phoebes. They already had the babies – that was quick! Your “Feathers” Challenge may have those babies fully feathered by then!

      4. Summer storms come in different forms. Dry thunderstorms today, heat down a bit. It cooled off overnight and we have low humidity.
The babies are OK, but I was worried. I timed the feathers challenge well I hope. The nestlings are growing so fast, maybe fledging late next week.

      5. We dodged a storm today but another one tomorrow afternoon. My favorite meteorologist was asked if we are having a very hot Summer and he said “yes, especially August.” Ugh! Good for you on the timing for your feathers post if they’re fledging next week and I’m glad you kept them from suffering in the heat. The parents were busy and maybe they’ll be a third clutch this Summer if you’re lucky!

  37. Great photos and words from President Reagan! He is 100% correct. As a kid growing up on the lake in Michigan, I loved the annual fireworks but these days this just cranks me off. The spent rockets land on the roof of my house and on the front and backyard. Fireworks are not allowed in my HOA… I’m not a party pooper but the rules are the rules.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thank you, John! There were a lot of negative quotes too, which I refuse to acknowledge. Despite our wildfire warnings, our rural county still allows fireworks. Nearby neighbors put on a fantastic show and shut it all down by 11pm! In Sacramento, a whole other story…fireworks go off for weeks before and after. My poor dog couldn’t handle it. The rules are there for a reason!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Oh yes, the fireworks start days before and linger afterwords here. Sadly, homes can be rented in this HOA which is ridiculous. Three years ago I marched two doors down and told the renters if they light one more rocket I’ll call the police. They stopped. They have no skin in the game and don’t know the rules either.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. That’s crazy! You did the right thing. You’d think the HOA would have done something.

      3. Those folks can do only so much. Our gates were open for a month which made me cranky. I sent an email to the office, they said they were waiting to hear from the welding company about a replacement part. A month for that?
