Welcome to the Sunday Stills Monthly Color Challenge for September. We’re taking a closer look at the colors of orange and apricot. But Terri, you ask, aren’t those fruits? Why yes, but orange and apricot are such cheerful colors that seem to embody early Autumn.
I am sure you know what the various colors of orange look like. Just in case, here is a color chart of shades of apricot.
Early September Fun
I took a blog break last week to entertain my daughter and her husband who visited from San Diego, California, over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend. The last time they visited was May 2021, when we just moved into our home in Eastern Washington. A lot had changed including the places we visited 5 years ago.
5 years ago, we visited my in-laws’ home and enjoyed the warm hues of the dining room. Just before dinner we watched a hot air balloon sail right by their house!
Their maple tree was just beginning to show a blush of color.
Sightseeing Around Spokane and Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho
Friday was a great day to visit Coeur d’ Alene Idaho, an hour’s drive from home.
We strolled along the marina on Lake Coeur d’Alene and noticed the contrast between the blue marina rooftops and the pops of color.
The stop at the dockside bar for an orange spritzer was also a good idea.
Saturday found us at Green Bluff Farms, a collection of agri-tourism farms and venues, located 20 miles northeast of downtown Spokane. It was chancy driving to this area this time of year, as Green Bluff is one of those seasonal areas that attracts thousands of people during Autumn.

After a visit to one of the farms where we gawked at the huge sunflowers and ripening pumpkins, …
… and we drove to another farm and picked up some delicious pumpkin butter!
From there, we walked to the next farm and spent the rest of the evening there enjoying an outdoor concert. After a nice day on the “Bluff,” we were treated to an afternoon thundershower and THIS!
Remembering Yellowstone NP
“Orange is an underrated color, it’s the second most underrated color after yellow.” – Michel Gondry
This time last year was a thrill for us to finally visit Yellowstone National Park. Amidst the early autumn landscape were pops of orange and apricot.
Hubby snapped this one of me standing on the overlook at Yellowstone’s Mammoth Springs area. You’ll see the footbridge down below.

I can’t sign off without acknowledging September 11, Patriot’s Day in the US. It has been 25 years since the multiple air attacks by terrorists who thought they could destroy the heart of the American people. 2,977 innocent people died in New York City, the Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
