The Flower Hour #29: If a Purple Tulip Could Talk

For the Flower Hour, share your images of flowers, gardens, fields of flowers, seasonal leaves and plants, fungus, algae, cacti, blossoms, berries, and wildflowers. Bouquets and silk/faux flowers are welcome.

Did You Notice My New Theme?

Thank you for indulging my break… changing my theme to a Block Theme (not to be confused with the block editor) was rather… EASY! I spent a whopping 3 hours on the nuts and bolts of adding widgets to the new sidebar, fumbling with fonts, and fiddling with the menu. It was a non-event, really, but I’m glad I went to the trouble.

If you decide to switch to a Block Theme, my advice is to go through your blog and copy/paste all information from your menu items, widgets, and their corresponding links and details. Don’t forget to note (or create new) the images you like for your About Me page.

It took me longer to curate all the info from my blog site into the Word doc than it did to actually change to the block theme. I did take my blog offline in case I hit snags. No one missed me for those three hours it was offline 😉!

Visit Hugh’s Views and News to see how he switched seamlessly, with some visual “how-to’s”. If you are reading from the Jetpack App on your mobile, it may be hard to tell if anything has changed. If you’re visiting from a computer, you will be able to see the layout and the subtle changes.

I am a Premium WordPress user. My subscription comes with free access to countless Block themes. I am currently using the Carnation theme. This theme offers a “featured article” option, which I’ve never used before.

For more information on Block Themes and the benefits of using them, read this WordPress Article.

  1. Terri , what a fun post! I love how you worked our challenge into your post! The flowers are gorgeous and the quotes are perfect with them. Your format looks great but I’m on iPhone now. Will check back from my computer tomorrow.

  2. I like your new theme, Terri. It’s the same of mine, but yours are well-edited. I’m not tech savvy, so mine looks messy.🤩🤭

    Congratulations!

I wish to have a very well design site like that.

Anyway, do you get bots subscription with the subscribe option under your blog? I decided to delete it because I got plenty of weird emails before.

  3. The Tulips, especially the close-up in the featured image are just exquisite Terri, so vibrant! I’m amazed it only took you three hours (after your initial prep work that you had mentioned to me and in this post that you would be doing). Congratulations! Maybe that will spur the rest of us to take the plunge with the block theme as well. I like the look of the new blog theme Carnation – it has nice clean lines. I will have a flower post for Wordless Wednesday to add here tomorrow.

  6. These are beautiful photos! Tulips are one of my favorite flowers. They are pretty much finished blooming here, and I missed the Tulip festival too. 😦 We were at the conservatory on Sunday, so I chose a few floral photos from that outing to share today: https://morecoffeebreaks.blogspot.com/2026/05/the-flower-hour-franklin-park.html

      1. haha Good to know, and after I’d said windows, I looked again and figured it must be a wire fence. Still it looked like greenhouse windows to me. 🙂

  18. First, congratulations on the new look and theme of your blog, Terri. Gosh, that sounds like a lot of work to change over…well done!

I love tulips, and you have such a beautiful story in this fine gallery of superstars of spring (tulips are one in my book). I love them all; I could not choose a favorite. I enjoyed this. Thank you, Terri.

    1. Thank you, dear Suzette! I’m so happy to have two garden beds full of tulips this year! Here’s hoping spring comes your way soon!
Changing my theme wasn’t too much work, but I’m glad I took the time beforehand to prepare for the worst. WP really makes it easy to switch. I’m guessing they want to keep their subscribers 😁

  22. I’m reminded of a poem…
I never saw a purple tulip
I never hope to see one
But I can tell you anyhow
I’d rather see than be one

Somehow something doesn’t seem quite right about my recollection of the poem… >grin<
