The Flower Hour #12: Yellow Trumpet Flower

Welcome back to a new year for the Flower Hour! There was a short two-week break during the holidays, but we’re back on schedule every Tuesday in 2026. Thank you to a few who linked their lovely florals during that time.

As we close out the winter holidays and festivities, I’m reminded of our previous winter vacations to Baja California Sur (BCS), Mexico, to engage in wind and board sports and bask in the warm sun.

Yellow Trumpet flower
Flowering bush from Baja, Mexico

“How lovely yellow is! It stands for the sun.” — Vincent Van Gogh

The yellow trumpet flowers above grow on a lush green bush, commonly seen in warm climates. I caught this stunner years ago against the red stucco at a friend’s home in Los Barriles on the Sea of Cortez.

For the Flower Hour, share your images of flowers, gardens, fields of flowers, seasonal leaves, blossoms, berries, and wildflowers. Even bouquets and silk/faux flowers are welcome.

There are no specific themes for the Flower Hour; just use your own photography.

  3. One of my favorite things about Mexico is the gorgeous paint colors used on many of the buildings. Those yellow flowers make such a nice contrast in front to the red wall.

    1. Spring is wonderful, but today was such a perfect winter day…the sun was shining and about an inch of snow on the ground. I can handle a few more weeks like this! Thank you, Kirstin!

      1. We’ve had nothing but lots of rain and the ground is saturated. We may get snow in January or February, that’s when we usually get some..in fact a few areas at higher elevations had some yesterday and supposed to get some as low as 500′ above sea level. We’re only at about 200′ sooooo it takes something special to get this low.

      2. I’ll send you some of ours. We got another good two inches over night!

  27. Such a warm and inviting return to the Flower Hour 🌼
Your words feel like sunshine in the middle of winter—those yellow trumpet flowers practically glow off the page. I love how you weave memory, place, and color together; Baja’s warmth, the red stucco, and Van Gogh’s line make the image linger beautifully. This is a gentle, joyful reminder to notice color, nature, and creativity year-round. A lovely way to welcome a new year of shared blooms and quiet inspiration.
