Sunday Stills Monthly Color Challenge: Things that are #Metallic

Welcome back to Sunday Stills this week as I attempt to tell stories through photos and color challenges. My two-week schedule is going along nicely for me–less pressure to prepare a new post each week.

For the next two weeks, we’ll examine metallic objects. Metal is a popular choice for holiday decorations at any time of year. Metals are also used for furniture, toys, and other items, from A for aircraft to Z for zippers and 98 more in between!

Let’s Start in the Kitchen

My daughter sent me an 8-quart stainless cookpot for my birthday! I adjusted items on my shelf to accommodate it and added the fun filter.

While I’m in the kitchen, I try to use my gorgeous Kitchen-Aid stand mixer.

I’m still in awe of my sister-in-law’s warm kitchen. Look at that oven!

Christmas Decor Around the House

Having not put up a Christmas tree this year, my metallic options were limited. Here are some tree ornaments from past years in gleaming colors of silver, gold, and blue.

Hubby has been working endless days in the cold garage/shop/pole barn to insulate and place drywall in half of the space. The tell-tale smoke lets me know he’s warmish. It’s his last chance to make progress until we take our road trip!

  9. They say that the kitchen is the heart of any home. I can see that your SIL’s kitchen is just that. But is it a self-cleaning oven, Terri? I had to ask.

    And Star Wars came to mind when I saw the featured image.

    • Now that’s a good question, Hugh! She told me the stove is gas and the ovens are electric (wow). I imagine the ovens are self cleaning. Glad you liked my filter on the stainless steel appliances. It does have that Star Wars quality 🤣. I’m in packing mode now and trying to finish my Dec 29 round up post. We’re looking forward to lots of family time (and drama, truly me)! Have a wonderful Christmas, Hugh! 🎄✨️

      • I don’t think Christmas would be Christmas without some family drama, Terri. Honestly, some Christmases, I have felt like I was spending it in a soap opera. It can give some good ideas for stories, though.

  26. Beautiful photos, Terri. I like “silvery” metal and chrome (as well as old metal things and rusted metal). It’s functional and when shaped into ornaments, it’s as beautiful as can be. I hope you get a little Christmas snow! Happy Holidays.

  40. You made my afternoon. After my 4 hours of prepping and cooking nonstop, I got to see your sparkles and lovely snaps. My camper’s tiny kitchen is way way too cramped for this much work. It felt good to take a break, sit down and catch up on reading blogs! I also like the filters you put to use and I may need to do some exploring on my iPhone or Mac apps for something to experiment with. I’ll be cranking out a short post myself. Enjoy your travels south. We will be sticking it out here through Christmas and heading back to So California just for the first 2 weeks of January.

  41. Terri – the Christmas bulbs are very pretty. I am sure you will see a Christmas tree in your travels and when you come home, no tree to pack away. I like the colored bulbs on the tips of the cacti – very clever! I decorated for the first time since 2008, not a lot, just to have a small Christmas tree to light up on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I took some photos today and will use them for next week. My metallic post will be for Wordless Wednesday this week. Here is today’s post, hot off the press:

  44. Those super shiny kitchen gadgets put me to shame, Terri. I don’t get much past a well worn frying pan and a slow cooker. I’m not a ‘natural’ cook, but a girl’s got to eat (and I know a man who certainly does!) Happy hols, darlin, and have a wonderful Christmas!

    • Many thanks, John! I had my phone for almost a year and discovered the filter by accident. It’s embedded in the Samsung Galaxy s23 ultra in the photo editing section. You might have it!

      We’re excited to be snowbirds again this year. With so many family members in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, it makes sense. San Diego too!

  54. Kitchenaid makes good appliances, both small and large.👌🏻 Your S-I-L’s kitchen looks like a professional cooking show set. What a great setup! And I love your deck, the summer shot especially.     • Thanks, Debbie! My SIL is amazing with her crafts, cooking and decor. We’re heading to their place today in fact!
      We have no snow either. Another weird year. I worry the house will get dumped on while we’re gone. Good thing my neighbors are watching the place for us. I don’t mind the cold and snow, but this fog has got to go!
