Sunday Stills: Get into Your #Groups

From small groups of people to masses of sports enthusiasts or groups of flowers, wildlife, or any old thing, Sunday Stills is exploring groups of things this week. For those participating, this is a wide-open theme.

  9. Terri,

I LOVE the herd of sheep image…so “arty!” Groups are so important. I love our church and the friends I’ve made there and shared life’s moments, both good and bad. My exercise group is delightful, and the people are as well. I look forward to every class. Great topic! Joe

    1. Many thanks, Joe! Funny how the sheep picture is so popular in this post, LOL! Great shot of your workout group. I miss going to the gym and participating in group exercise, but I may be able to go back to our local one when I’m eligible for Medicare’s silver and fit (it’s free).

  11. I love the line of mailboxes, Terri. What beautiful colours they are. I also like taking photos of groups of people because I always think of all the stories behind the faces of the people in the photo.

I thought the herd of sheep photo was some morning mist surrounding them, not that there had been a stamped causing the dust to rise. I love that photo because of al the different light you have captured in it.

The photo of the field of tulips is especially eye-catching because of the angle of where the photo was taken. And the colours of the tulips against the blue sky is perfect.

My entry is coming up in my Wordless Wednesday post.

  23. Hi Terri, thanks for another great prompt for #SundayStills! Your post is full of joy and those letterboxes are similar to many we see in Australia. You’ve shared a great selection of groups and I used a similar idea in my post – the collective names for groups of some of our quirky Aussie animals. I especially love the flowers and the sheep. I also love the blogging groups we’re involved in and am so pleased I get to see you all so often (online)!

    1. Thank you, Shelley! Well you know how much I love getting the interesting angles for an image. That sheep photo is one of a kind (for me) and purely an accident. 30. Terri – you sure had a wide variety of “group” pictures. I like how you did the groups into groups. That was clever. The sunflowers and tulips seem to go on forever in the photo don’t they? I laughed at the deer butts and the name of a group of Raven. It seems that great minds think alike because when I saw the Challenge was Groups, I have been meaning to write a post that discussed the different unique names for birds and animals. In fact, in the past few weeks, a fellow blogger (Ally Bean) and I were discussing flamingos and she said a group of flamingos was a flamboyance and a single flamingo was a stand, so, when you posted the May Challenges, I decided to make the unique names a part of my post. I also filled it with goslings. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Linda! I had a lot of fun with this post. And I didn’t even think of the layout in groups. It must have been subconscious 😆 We get so many deer and those three were in the right place and time for the shot. I’m glad you also thought of the unique animal kingdom names. They are hilarious! A flamboyance of flamingos, how perfect. Like Wayne mentioned, he didn’t like the “Unkindness” word to describe ravens. I have to agree. Most birds can become very unkind while protecting their clutches and hatchlings. Always fun to see your creative posts and images!

      1. I think we both have fun with our posts and adding the Challenge gives me something to add to just a “walk around”, but especially for this one. The first website I found with the funny names went on for pages and pages, so I found this website instead, which names were fun and unique. That’s an odd name for the ravens and I can understand Wayne mentioning that as he has befriended Robbie and Roberta, his ravens he features on his blog.

A couple of years ago, I was walking to the Park and saw a female Mallard in distress. Some of her ducklings fell down the sewer grate and she had some with her and all of them were pacing nervously. I stayed with her, called Animal Control. In the meantime, a neighbor saw me, came out and asked if I was okay. Soon, the neighborhood was helping – a guy took the grate cover off, climbed down into the sewer with a pool skimmer and flashlight and fished out most of the ducklings, but some swam over across the street, so he pulled off that manhole cover and went in and got all but one which was still peeping. Mama Duck was pacing nervously and after each duckling was fished out, it ran straight to Mama. So sweet! The whole neighborhood kept cheering for each duckling retrieved.

By then the Animal Control Officer finally arrived and got the last one, but Mama Duck had already waddled away and was long gone. I wrote a post about it as I took photos and I got Michigan Duck Sanctuary to take the duckling as Mama never came back for it. Another one of my favorite posts.

      2. Wow, an amazing story, Linda. How wonderful! I guess you’ll see it all with the frequency of your walks!

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Yes,I have seen some things Terri, but this was a collective effort within minutes of me standing there with her until she waddled off. One of the neighbors said she’d keep the duckling in case the mom came back. I suggested the duck sanctuary, a man and his wife who run a non-profit rehab for ducks and they live in their barn/pond. Most of the rescues/rehabs are Pekin ducks, many of them Easter ducks that people abandon a week or so after they get them for Easter. They are a favorite charity of mine, just a small charity, nothing big. I e-mailed or sent a Facebook message to Matt and asked if he could take the duckling, so one of his volunteers came to pick it up a few days later. They don’t live near me, but they have a crew of volunteers that go out any time, day or night, when people find wounded waterfowl. He takes swans and geese as well. It was a good ending. I asked Matt why the mom didn’t realize she was missing a duckling and he said “she has no idea how many ducklings she has – they just know to follow behind her.” 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      4. Terri, here is the link to the follow-up post I did about the last duckling rescued and where she ended up at Matt’s – you can see his huge duck pond and all his waterfowl residents. Inside this post I linked to the earlier post I wrote about the actual rescue. Rudy, the neighbor mowing his lawn was the hero of the day and after he was done, he had us stand together for a selfie. The original post is long, so just read these someday or see the pics when you have a chance.
