Sunday Stills: #Fog at My Feet, Head in the #Clouds

January has usually been a month where it feels like my head is either in a fog or UP in the clouds. So far this year, with so much going on with our move to Washington, I feel slightly unmotivated and a little out-of-sorts. I have a lot to look forward to and I am very eager to get on with our new life here. Even a cloudy, snowy day is beautiful to me.

I won’t let the BIG events cloud my motivation. Despite the hope of a historical, US presidential inauguration, the potential for unrest and what feels like a never-ending pandemic has caused psychological harm to possibly millions of people. Who doesn’t feel brain fog these days?

For now, I will revel in what the month of January brings, usually cold weather, clouds and fog, and discover an ethereal and reflective beauty in the images.

Windy conditions at the Sacramento delta yielded an incredible variety of cloud formations, including this lenticular formation.

I couldn’t resist re-posting this image of the wave-like clouds we saw a few years ago in the Mohave Desert.

These clouds at 4500 elevation in the Sierra Nevada Mountains were feeling lazy.

The Canada Goose family doesn’t seem to mind the foggy, overcast days as long as they can eat and swim. Submitted for Lisa’s Bird Weekly, Birds with Brown Feathers.

And just when you think you are too weary to care about much, Blue Angels soar high above us, a gift of hope as humankind demonstrates its capacity to defy speed and gravity .

  4. I got an email for this post two days ago, but none today! WordPress gremlins? Nice set of photos again, Terri. I hope your foggy feeling passes, perhaps when you’re in your new house and more settled. It is nice being able to feel more optimistic about what’s going on even if the virus is still in full swing. Trump was such a depressingly awful person, let alone president. It’s a relief to see him gone.

    • WP gremlins for sure, Graham! I get the emails and was quite annoyed when that popped up on Friday after I scheduled the post for this morning. I’ve seen this happen to a couple of other blogs I follow. Glad you like the images. I almost used one from our trip to Hilo in 2019, driving from the Kona area, but took it out at the last minute. Just an OK image. New year, new decade, let’s just move forward. Still waiting on the house.

  7. Waiting’s not a good place to be, Terri. I’ve just been across to our neighbour, who lives alone, and had a good old grumble. It won’t change anything but it saves my husband’s ears 🙂 🙂 Sending hugs!

  13. Some wonderful images this week Terri, and such an assortment of so many kinds! You tied the images beautifully to your subject. I can imagine you’re having a hard time focusing on anything these days considering how anxious you must be to move into your new home. Looking forward to your sharing the big day

  18. I really get the brain fog. You are in limbo right now – a perfect place for fog. I’m still a little foggy because we can’t do too much with the snow, and we are still settling and fighting about how to deal with indoor rather than outdoor cats. It’s a little confining, but also very comfortable. Maybe too much so, I’m thinking as I watch the snow from the comfort of my office. So after I get up and move around a bit, I’ll look for fog. We owned that word in Tulare County. Take care and count the days. They will fly by. Lots of love, hugs. 🙂

    • I saw your beautiful snow on FB a moment ago. Some clouds in there would work too! Snow has been lightly falling since noon, nothing sticks yet, but likely overnight. There still seems to be much to do on the property, hard to count days. We applied to rent a house for February-April if needed, we need to get out of here. Too long to explain why here. Enjoy your snow and hope the kitties behave 😘

  24. I love your take on fog and clouds Terri, it really is a feeling sometimes and you’ve explained it very well! Your clouds are wonderful, especially the blue angels in the clouds. Hope you can start moving forward with your plans soon. My head has been in the clouds lately too, with a new baby grandson to welcome home, while taking care of 2 year old Miss E :).   26. I find that going for a long walk often helps get rid of any brain fog, Terri. The colours in your photos are amazing. I was instantly drawn to the first photo because I’m such a fan of winter.

    Living on the coast, we get lots of fog, especially during the autumn and winter months. Here’s a snap I took of the fog last autumn.

    The large house belongs to none other than the singer Bonnie Tyler. Yes, she’s a near neighbour of. mine. I hope to bump into her one day, but not when it’s foggy.

  31. Beautiful shots Terri. I too am suffering from brain fog and pandemic anxiety and severe lack of motivation. Not at all what I envisioned for my first year of retirement but hey, like Kirsten said, I will not let ALL.THE.THINGS and ALL.THE.PEOPLE get to me! 😉

  49. Clouds, never the same and always changing, are amazing. I love finding the sky a place of interest. I share you general unease that we are learning to live with in terms of COVID here in Australia (its OK but it is here to stay) and our own political leaders lack true empathy.   57. These are wonderful shots Terri! You too, have a great eye! The wave cloud shot is nature at its absolute amazingly best! The windmills with the sunset in the background is over the top spectacular. What an awesome subject. Who cares about gray skies when you have a view of a mountain with snow on it? I mean, really! I suppose living in it and visiting it provide two different perspectives though. The quotes were exceptional! 🙂
