celebrating a birthday

This year, 2019, marks 59 years of my existence. I was born in December, so for most of 2019, I am 59. Being that I was born in 1959 makes this my golden year, I’m told. I have to admit that it has been a golden year, albeit a little tarnished with stress and surgery, but I am blessed with excellent health, a great part-time “retirement” job, and a wonderful husband and family.

By the time you read this post, I will be returning home from spending a long weekend in San Diego celebrating with family and friends the beginning of our 60th decade of life.

Hubby’s big 6-0 was last Monday and mine is looming in early December.

Coincidentally, October marks eight years of blogging! Although I wrote my first post on October 31, I didn’t get serious with consistently blogging until Fall 2014 as I planned for retirement from my full-time day job.

To help celebrate life’s milestones, the Sunday Stills theme this week is birthdays.

I know how creative you all can be, so help me celebrate by posting a milestone in your life, whether a special birthday, anniversary, or something special that marks a significant life event.

To get you started, here are a few photos from past celebrations.

I love this image of Hans and his mother, Hella, who just celebrated her 88th birthday earlier this month!

We love a celebration!

Homemade chocolate cake for our December birthdays.

My 60th birthday is still a few weeks away and I will be teaching in the classroom that night (December 4), but virtual cards and cake are always appreciated.

I can’t wait to see what creative interpretations you have of birthdays, anniversaries or other celebrations you have to share with us this week!

  1. That’s pretty cool that you’re both celebrating your sixtieth birthdays this year! We know a lot of people with October birthdays here in Massachusetts (and in Belgium), one of which was my father-in-law, who turned 89 on Friday. Celebrations are nice. We don’t have them often enough! Congratulations to Hans!!

  2. Fun challenge Terri and happy almost 60😊. When my friend turned 50 we called it The Year Of Jane. Ever since, zero birthdays start “the year of”. So 2020 will be the year of you AND hubby. Have a great one

  3. 1059 was a great year. There were of us baby boomers born that year. Love all the candles. The best related birthday story I heard was a father giving his birthday “day” to his daughter, who was born on Christmas Eve. That gesture gave her a birthday with less focus on Christmas and more on her 🙂

  4. Congratulations to Hans, Terri. I hope he had a lovely birthday and enjoyed that mouthwatering cake. October seems to be a busy month for birthdays for many of us. We were at an 80th birthday celebration on Saturday night, and have no less than another six birthdays during October (including Toby who reached 8 – 64 in dog years) on the 2nd Oct.
And congratulations on reaching eight years of blogging on the 31st Oct. My blog will be 6 in February. We’ve all come a long way since publishing those first posts.
