Unexpected Beauty of a Dying Rose

,

Dying rosebud still glorious

Spring is still in the air with crazy weather in the form of hot temps one day and cold rain two days later. With big changes, spring flowers are abundant. I just love smelling the fragrant air as I walk through my neighborhood, especially with the star jasmines and roses blooming!

For Musin’ with Susan’s Macro Moments Challenge, the theme of week #37 asks photographers to create a macro image using water.

My American Beauties were crazy last month, but this is all that is left until the next batch. Luckily I clipped a few to place in a vase to enjoy in the house. For a flower riot, check out this previous post.

I found this quote that seems to commemorate the moment, by James Thompson, Scottish Poet:

“Gather the rosebuds while ye may, old time is still a flying; And that same flower that blooms today, tomorrow shall be dying.”

For Macro Moments participants, I captured this with my Samsung Galaxy S5 on full zoom, and used a mister to spray water onto the flower. Of course, the wind made it challenging to capture a clear image, but I believe this one turned out for the best. I even got some great depth of field (quite by accident)! Post-editing done with PicMonkey.

I hope you are still enjoying the spring air and flowers.

  6. Amazing! Regal, yet sad. Are the white mists at the top, the water mists you squirted?
    The bud looks almost frozen!

    1. Yes, that is the mist I created. Surprised the wind didn’t blow it off! Thanks, Melinda!

  7. Great picture! I love how water droplets look on flowers, and obviously, they look just as nice here 🙂 I hope my roses come back this year… the plant “died” so I dug it up two years ago and planned on putting something else in its place, but then it reappeared! It didn’t flower at all last year, I was so disappointed. Keeping my fingers crossed! Hope you’re surviving the heat! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Toni…this one took patience. The wind kept blowing and giving me blurry images 🙂

  13. Absolutely stunning photo! We are in a drought in Orlando so I feel like a crazy person going around each evening watering my plants and flowers hoping they make it through until the rain returns. This photo is reminiscent of my Gerber Daisies at present. 🙂

      1. I feel like I bring it. Everytime I live in a place it has its worst drought in history, then when I leave it returns to normal…I’m starting to take it personally.;)

  14. Lovely, Terri and I love the poem. My roses seem to be dying faster this year. Maybe it’s the crazy swings in our weather.
