Fitness Friday: #Walks For all Seasons

Walk is my Word of the Year, and I’ve joined countless other bloggers who chose to be intentional with the elusive New Year’s Resolutions by choosing a word on which to focus.

I continue to be very intentional with my daily walks and strive for at least 10,000 steps a day.

“Everywhere is walking distance if you have the time.” ~ Steven Wright

Aside from the physical aspects of walking, I was reminded that my faith allows me to walk with God. Even when I fail to do so, He is always with me, in good times and in bad.

If our recent 31-day road trip taught me anything, I learned that things really do happen for a reason, and all the anticipation and planning in the world can’t replace God’s perfect timing. As you read last week, we were gently placed right where we needed to be to comfort not only my best friend in the loss of her mother but to also comfort, advise and grieve with our grown children when they needed their parents.

Often, people ask why God allows sadness and tragedy to befall us… remember, we live in a fallen world. Bad things happen.

God does not orchestrate tragedy, rather, He walks alongside us when we experience it.

“Pursue some path, however narrow and crooked, in which you can walk with love and reverence.“ – Henry David Thoreau

Thank you to Donna, Debbie, Sue, and Jo for continuing to host the monthly WOTY catchup posts in 2022. I had a bit of catching up as I missed posting updates in May and June due to travel and family get-togethers.

  1. Hi, Terri – I absolutely love your choice of your opening photo for this post. It did cause me to pause for a moment or two. The snow image was automatically cooling. 😀 Walk is a wonderful WOTY (I am sure that I will borrow it for a future year). I also love the Steven Wright quote!

    • Thank you, kindly, Donna! I need to get into the link party and read everyone’s posts! I was scrolling for walking pics and found that awkward shot of me flailing about on the snowshoes in December 2020. So hot here, you must be getting the same heat too! Thanks again for hosting WOTY!

  2. I love your WOTY, and may steal it for next year. I had to get a new fitbit after testing to see if my old one was spa-proof. It wasn’t. My walking lagged, but now I have my new one and I am getting nearly 7,000 steps a day again, in spite of monsoons. Thanks for linking to WQW with a Fitness Friday. 🙂 Keep those fitness posts coming. 🙂

  3. Hi Terri, it is so lovely to have you join us for #2022WOTY. I love your photos of your various ‘walks’ and also your daily intention of 10,000 steps. I also enjoyed your WOTY as it relates to your relationship with God and your faith. Such a simple word but it can have a huge influence on all aspects of our life. Take care and look forward to reading your WOTY post next month. x

  4. “Walk” could be my word of the year too Terri. Beginning a walking regimen in 2011 was the best thing I’ve done for myself as it led to blogging and a renewed interest in photography. Walking for every season as you illustrate is good for us, not only physically, but mentally. I always say “onward and upward” for my motto.

      • Terri, I was just aiming for one more mile each year until Wayne encouraged me to do 2,020 km for the new decade … it was a steep increase and I wavered but he said “you can do it!” I did it, but now, my goal is back to just one more mile and anything over is “gravy” as the expression goes. I need to get to 1,256 miles by year-end. We do push ourselves don’t we? I do 10,000 steps a day to balance out what I can’t do in the days with snow/ice and yes, I can do that 10,000 steps in an hour, though I stop to take pictures often or feed the critters which makes it take longer. I work from home, so I don’t take my car out in bad weather, but I will walk if not too slick.

  5. I keep vowing I’ll start walking as I’m doing no exercise at all and I’m certainly capable of walking, so it’s only my apathy I have to blame. I love that you talk about walking in all types of weather and in / on all occasions, as that’s the beauty of it isn’t it?!

  6. 10000 steps a day is a great target. My mom just told me of this article that highlighted that women in Japan live for a larger number of years than most women and one of their daily routines is walking.

  7. Loving the ways you’ve brought walk into your life in July – aside from the obvious, that is. The ropes course, the snow-shoeing (is that what you call it?) and walking with your faith. Thanks for linking up!
