Sunday Stills Monthly Color Challenge: Spring #Green

Just in time to celebrate the spring equinox and last week’s “wearin’ o’ the green” for St. Patrick’s Day, this week’s Sunday Stills theme is all about the color green. Not just any green but “spring” green as seen below. Think of fresh, lively greens as dormant plants and trees open their sleepy blooms to the sky (northern hemisphere).

“Everything is so green it hurts my eyes.”

My remarks when we would visit my cousins in East Texas in spring or summer.

Terri Webster Schrandt

Green is the fresh emblem of well-founded hopes. In blue, the spirit can wander, but in green, it can rest.

Mary Webb

Spring green does not have to be about plants and trees, although I have a few! Spring green is everywhere as you can see in my gallery. (Click images to see in full size).

One More B&W Image

I had a lot of comments and questions on my image-compare photo of the hummingbird last week, showing the difference between the same photo in color and in B&W. Here is another hummingbird image shown in image compare, to share for Lisa’s Bird Weekly challenge. Image Compare can be found in the block editor.

Two New Ways to Share Your Amazing Photos

WordPress Stories
Have you tried WordPress stories yet? I posted two this week; one was a preview of today’s post. This is done through your mobile device (currently through Android). I had to upload the most updated WordPress app version, so do check it out. If you’ve shared stories through Facebook and Instagram, you know those only last 24 hours then poof into the netherworld they fly only to be seen by you if you remembered to download them. These seem to serve as quick mini-posts and will stay on your blog’s home page, another great way to share. I don’t see ways to link back to the host’s post, but WordPress Stories seems like another fun way to share our talents within WordPress. Here is mine if you missed it! See full article.

Too Busy to Write a Post for a Photo Challenge? Try Sharing in Comments
Last week, I took a page out of Hugh’s Views and News and Joe’s Easin’ Along by sharing an image in my comment section. Sometimes we don’t have time to write a whole post, but sharing an image in the host’s post is almost as productive. Others will likely view the image and visit your blog. Here is how to accomplish this simple task: Sharing image In Comments or Hugh’s Tutorial.

The Good News and Bad News

Lots of major items were checked off the new house last week. The carpet and septic system were both installed. You guessed; this was the good news.

So what pray tell could be the bad news? We’ve been given the green light (ha!) for the impending walk-through, and move the RV onto the property while they finish. Now, how is this bad news, you ask, scratching your head? Well, we will have no Internet until March 31. Oh yes, and I will be in full-on unpacking and moving mode. So, I will be on a two-week blogging break while I get my act together!

Back to the good news! Marsha Ingrao of Always Write will host Sunday Stills on March 28 and April 4. March 28 is “Respect Your Cat Day,” instead of Emerging which is postponed to April 11. April 4 is “volunteering.” The themes will be updated on my Sunday Stills page, with a link to Marsha’s blog. The remaining April themes will be posted soon! Please feel free to follow our moving progress on Facebook and Instagram, and I may be able to share a WordPress story or two!

The RV park sign shows the color of spring green nicely in its logo. We’ll say goodbye on March 24 as we begin to move into the house!

Thank you to all who shared your stunning black and white photos this past week. Many commented that B&W photography was not their “thing,” yet everyone shared at least one amazing image. I was truly inspired by YOU all and aim to explore more black and white photography.

Sunday Stills Photo Challenge Reminders

  • Please create a new post for the theme or link a recent one.
  • Title your blog post a little differently than mine.
  • Don’t forget to create a pingback to this post so that other participants can read your post. I also recommend adding your post’s URL into the comments.
  • Entries for this theme can be posted all week.
  • Use hashtag #SundayStills for sharing on social media.

An Expressive But Colorless Collection

Sunday Stills is a wonderful community of bloggers and photographers who desire to connect with one another. Each week I will share the links from the previous post so you can continue to meet and support each other. And with that…view the spectacular and inspiring images in black and white last week shared by your fellow bloggers.

I look forward to your spring green images this week. Please visit my Sunday Stills page to see the latest updates.

Have a wonderful week and “see” you back here on April 11th!

  1. Hi, Terri – Your fun and varied ‘green shots’ have made me feel the warmth of Spring already.
Thank you for sharing the WP Compare tool. I look forward to giving that a try.
Good luck with your move — I will definitely follow on Instagram.
See you back at #SundayStills when you are unpacked and connected.
If okay with you and Marsha I will likely go ahead with my #Emerge post next week. I used ’emerge’ as the theme for my photography project in a course that I just completed. I would love to wrap that up. My post can serve as a preview of a coming attraction! 😀

  2. Terri, what an amazing gallery on this post. Which block is it? I like how you can add text to the photos, and it’s centred too.

I’m glad you’re taking a break while you move in. Maybe being without wifi is a blessing? Otherwise, you may well have found yourself overwhelmed.

Good luck with the move, and Happy Easter, too. I hope you gave the Easter Bunny your new address?

Thanks so much for linking to my post about adding images to comments. It acted as the perfect opportunity to update the post.

    • Thanks so much, Hugh! With all that is going on, I used the gallery image in the block editor and simply used previous images. While in the gallery editor, you can add the text! I’m looking forward to getting moved in as we found a local church to attend right away in time for Palm Sunday and Easter, and only 3 miles away. I’m looking forward to a wee break if you can call moving as such 🙂 I hope more bloggers will consider the comment section as an alternative to a post or a combination of the two, and can use yours as an excellent tutorial!

  3. Yahoo Terri! That is hardly what I would call bad news 😊. Best of luck with the move, hope all goes smoothly. So excited for you – sounds like yet another sign that spring has sprung! Amazing number of greens, which I must admit is not my favorite color (except, of course, when it is a sign that spring has sprung!). I did love your colorful mexican gate tho!

    • Thank you and mostly good news, Tina! But a short break is needed, although it will be busy! The delicate spring greens are a sure sign spring has sprung. Still waiting for actual spring here although we’ve had warm afternoons. People up here throw their shorts and sandals on even in 50 degree weather!

  4. A beautiful gallery for both green and spring. Love the brightness. Cheers to the good news on the house progress. A two-week blogging break is good. After all, you will have plenty to do! … and if you need a third week, take it!

Meanwhile, earlier this week I had two back-to-back beach walks that serendipitously fit your theme … Spring then Green. Links are below and I invite your readers to stop by my friendly place, and hopefully comment.

    • Thank you, Frank, I will need a little break and I’m glad Marsha can host for me! Thanks for leaving the links and I hope readers will stop by! Later today, I’m walking the dogs to a beautiful road surrounded by pine trees and plan to capture some images for a walk I can include on your site! Even on a break, my mind is always thinking of the next images!

      • e fairly closed to Washing Game site where can walk and see the mountain goats. You can exercise your dog there in the parking /campsite there. . You walk across a bridge. They float the Yakima River. I don’t remember the name of the city that you can access the area. We came in from Yakima.

  6. Hi Terri, I love the quote by Mary Webb and yes, green to me is calming and restful. Thanks also for the information on WordPress Stories and how to use them. I’m enjoying #SundayStills and trying to think creatively. Your images are always beautiful and a joy for my Monday mornings. Good luck with the move and thanks again for hosting #SundayStills. 7. Wow I love this post, Terri! It’s chocked full of beautiful pictures and helpful information too! Thank you for that! First the pictures – all are wonderful – but I LOVE the ‘Sunflower Bud’ and the ‘Let the blooming begin’ – is that also a sunflower? And I notice you’re showing your camera settings on the pictures in the gallery. Is that something new or did I miss it before?

Finally, I appreciate you linking to posts that explain how to insert a picture into a comment as I’ve wondered how to do it! I’m hoping to drop by sometime later with some spring green!

    • Thank you, Susanne! Both of those are my baby sunflowers from last year or 2019. I’m glad you found the post helpful! I didn’t know you could see the camera settings by clicking on the images. Crazy. Not sure how helpful many of them are considering they were taken with mobile phones. :/ Linking images into comments is such a great idea! And it works well in certain cases. I’ll look forward to your greens!

      • Isn’t that strange about the pictures in the gallery? That must have been a recent update from WP. I just went back and looked at the pictures in my own gallery and even though it doesn’t show the camera settings, it does look different, including a place for comments! I wish they would share release notes with their changes!

      • Yes I hear ya, Susanne! Hugh Roberts messaged me asking if we still had the WP admin button on our sidebars. We did as of today, but we may lose that too. I log in through the dashboard in my menu bar, so I suppose we shall see any changes coming our way.

  8. GREEEEEN is so good for our mental health when we view it in nature…and thanks for the reminder about St Patricks Day..not as widely celebrated here but of course, it was by some. I loved having a look around nature for more green….thank you for letting us know about the link up…I will adjust my schedule. Sending my best wishes to you both for the big move IN…and to be honest, I would have to buy a wireless dongle to stay connected…but you will have your work cut out for you with moving and how good another person will be helping out. Nice one for a kind community

  9. Terri,
If you’re anything like me, moving is usually something I dread. Nevertheless, all of the hard work will pay off soon. We’re praying for a smooth move for you and Hans. I literally took this picture about five minutes before posting it here. Helen and I are on a short camping trip in North Carolina with a roaring creek running behind our site. The green moss on the bank has a lovely shade of green. Enjoy your “break!” Joe

  10. What a packed post! I love the ‘stories’ you shared. I do not yet use the block editor so can’t get it to work. And, I think it was just for android? I have iOS… Something to enjoy on your site! Great news about the progress on your house. I can only imagine your extreme excitement. And finally, I will check out how to add images to comments. I’ve tried, failed… Maybe Hugh can help me.

  11. Beautiful greenery this week, Terri! NO INTERNET! OMG! Enjoy the peace and quiet for that time. When we were in Yellowstone, I had internet (sometimes) at night. Once in a while on the drive through the park, my phone would starting, ta ding, ta ding, ta ding. Then No Service again. I got bits and pieces, but enjoyed the serenity of disconnecting from the world even for a short 12 days. Yay for Marsha to step up. I would be glad to help if you ever need it. 🙂 Mine is coming sooner rather than later.

      • Well, however it works for you is going to be just perfect. If you can’t zoom this time, there will be next time and you will start to be settled. I’m really excited for you to get this chapter going and in the books. 🙂

  12. Beautiful green photos, Terri. And hummingbirds must be in full color. Ha ha. Congrats on the house progress and don’t fret about no internet. That means you can focus on everything else! You’re going to busy. Enjoy.

  13. Hi Terri, this is such a fun and informative post. I like the fact you included your bright green shirts. I had a great time going through files and coming up with that spring green. My pictures are still not labeled well enough to narrow to a search by color, but every time I post, I organize more files that aren’t ready to be searched for anything. 🙂 Have a great week this week. I’m all set to Respect the Cat! and can’t wait. Thanks again for the honor. Here’s to green! https://tchistorygal.net/2021/03/22/sunday-stills-goes-green/

  14. Great news that you’re able to move in at last! And thanks for choosing one of my favourite colours as a challenge theme. Who doesn’t love a vivid green landscape?! I hope you’ll be tolerant of the fact that the photos in my contribution were taken one summer rather than spring, because in the northern English climate the spring colours last right through most of the summer, especially near water: https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/the-lewis-burn-inlet-walk-at-kielder-water/

  15. Great news, Terri! I imagine that it seemed you’d never get in the house but here it is! Your green pictures are wonderful (I especially liked the green gate)… spring is here and I’m doing the happy dance.

I had wondered how some people were able to add images to there comments: now I know!

Enjoy your move-in! I know that Marsha will take good care of your Sunday Stills “baby.” I’ll have to put my thinking cap on for Respect the Cat.

  16. Stunning images Terri! I always forget how bright green can be. Even the cacti in the Baja desert are starting to show some green leaves!

Luckily, your bad news isn’t really bad news. Being without internet can be a blessing, as we experienced on the Bahia Concepcion beaches. Finding a balance between work/blogging/writing and leisure is what it’s all about, in my opinion. Happy moving and unpacking! Fun!

  17. Hope you have settled into your new home and are about ready to return to us. Will be excited to see photos taken from the new house.

Green!! Best color in the world. In my humble opinion. Love your quote about the green of Texas springs and summers. Our far west Texas spring and summer is green but nothing like that of the rest of the state.

Your hummingbird capture is so clear and detailed. The texture in the feathers. The bit of white fluff. Just beautiful. Love the contrast of the green and pink doorway from Mexico. And the leafy loveliness of spring in the Sierra Nevadas.

My blog is sick and I am falling behind on all of my posting. But hope to get things back in shape soon.

Give yourself some grace as you settle into this forever home. XO

    • Thank you for your kind words, Leslie! We’ve been in the home exactly one week today. A mountain of moving and unloading still to go, a fun, exhausting work in progress! Glad you enjoyed the images and hope you are doing well! 😀
